Mengge Du, Shichen Zhao, Efficiency Evaluation and Influence Factor Analysis of Medical Malls-Taking Fukuoka City, Japan as a Case Study, International Review for Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development, https://doi.org/10.14246/irspsd.10.2_73, 2022.04, [URL], At present, Japan is facing the problem of increasing medical demands caused by an aging society. The imbalance between supply and demand makes the efficiency of medical services particularly important. In this context, a new medical facility, medical malls, has emerged in recent years. Different from independent clinics, the medical mall is a facility that integrates multiple medical functions and provides multi-disciplinary treatments for patients. In order to verify the effectiveness of this new medical facility and explore its relationship with the urban environment, this paper first identifies the medical malls in Fukuoka City and studies their characteristics, then the SBM model was used to calculate the medical efficiency of the clinics in the 75 medical malls, compared with the independent clinics. Finally, the research analysed the spatial distribution of the medical mall efficiency and the spatial regression with the surrounding urban environment. The results show that the medical mall is a more efficient facility, and population density of the young and the working-aged, the number of main roads, total construction area, the proportion of residence and commerce, and the number of the other medical facilities have significant impacts on the medical efficiency. This research proposes a method to evaluate the effectiveness of utilization of medical resources. Through the evaluation of medical efficiency and the analysis of the urban environment affecting efficiency, this paper provides data support for the site selection of medical malls and the rational layout of urban medical facilities..

Eye-movement data from 40 respondents viewing 14 sample pictures were recorded. The spatial elements of the sample pictures, including landmarks and commercial brands, were further extracted to analyze the visual characteristics of spatial elements and the factors that affect the respondents’ perceptions of those elements. Then, the semantic differential method was used to analyze the relationship between visual preferences and psychological perceptions of spatial elements. Seventeen pairs of opposing adjectives were selected to score the intrinsic properties and visitors’ feelings of spaces. The software SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze these data. Results showed that distinctive spatial elements, such as street corridors, Ma Tau Walls, and various landmarks, were the most visually attractive. In addition, the location of a given element within a picture was an important factor affecting eye movements. On this basis, strategies for improving spatial-visual effects are proposed. The strategies include emphasizing the visual characteristics of different spatial elements, considering the overall layout of spatial elements, and creating diversified spaces based on different spatial categories..

21. PROPOSAL OF A SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR FORMULATING COMPACT CITY PLANNING BASED ON THE CITY PLANNING OF PORTLAND
In Japan's regional cities, due to a decline in agriculture and the development of motorization, the urban sprawl phenomenon has become an issue. The declining population and growing proportion of elderly people have created a demand for compact urban structures as a form of effective financial investment. These circumstances have also led to the integration of medical and retail facilities and residences. An increased number of local governments are planning compact urban developments that allow access through public transportation to services necessary for daily life.
Meanwhile, the American city of Portland, Oregon, which is well-known as a sustainable city, is advancing compact city policies. As its characteristic policy, Portland is attempting to establish “20-Minute Neighborhoods.” It's implementing urban planning while controlling regional city structures to make compact cities a reality.
This study demonstrates and visualizes a future urban structure model by constructing an expert system that incorporates this concept and applies it to the regional city of Ube in Japan's Yamaguchi Prefecture. It also assesses this model and considers processes for moving populations. Based on these findings, we aim to propose new ways to support compact city planning.
In this study, the target area is Ube city as the target city for this simulation modelled on Portland's compact city planning. First, this study examines Portland's population trends and land use transitions and analyzes the urban structure of Ube city. Next, the study samples aspects of Portland's compact city administrative planning and configurations for “20-Minute Neighborhoods”, preparing a “knowledge base.” The “knowledge base”, is used to create “rules for population integration” to migrate future population. Then, we develop a system for constructing the Portland Compact City Model (hereinafter referred to as the “PCM”) in accordance with indicators arbitrarily set by users, based on the rules for population integration. The GIS data used for Ube City has been organized into 100meter mesh data. Finally, future urban structures are considered by assessing the compactness of the PCM and discussing the process that could be used to move populations and make the PCM a reality.
This study reaches the following conclusions.
 (1) First, based on the Portland City administration's concept of a “20-Minute Neighborhoods,” we identified areas corresponding to a complete neighborhood by calculating the walkable value of Ube City.
 (2) We developed an expert system that incorporates the planning policy of Portland's compact city, examined a future urban structure by constructing an urban structure model.
 (3) In the future urban structure model, the population is concentrated mainly around a central urban area. In addition, the population living within walking distance of urban and commercial service facilities has increased and the convenience of life improved.
 (4) When all of the population is concentrated in a complete neighborhood with high residential environment, it will be a very high-density urban structure for a city the size of Ube City. To migrate the population in stages, we created a standardization index and examined the mesh with high population movement priority..
22. A study on the three-dimensional restoration method by using images and map information
Preserving and sharing the landscape and memories of the past by reconstructing historic cityscape of the past play an important role in researching the history of the cities and culture. Especially image information; photos and picture postcard can be an important clue to grasp the three-dimensional view of the past. This paper shows how the three-dimensional information can be estimated from the two-dimensional information. In this method, image information, reference in the real space and plan information are needed to reconstruct three-dimensional information. This paper also applied this method with perspective drawings and clarified the geometric relationship between corresponding-points, how to chose them, and camera parameters..

Eid, Applying a hybrid model of markov chain and logistic regression to identify future urban sprawl in abouelreesh, aswan: A case study, Geosciences (Switzerland), 10.3390/geosciences6040043, 6, 4, 2016.12, Urban sprawl has become a very complex process, because it has many factors affecting its directions and values. The study of relative research shows that the driving forces that lead and redirect future urban sprawl require the application of a statistical method. In our study, logistic regressions were used to analyze and class the driving forces for urban sprawl. Identifying the driving forces, which is the most important step in predicting the future of urban sprawl in 2037, was performed using the cellular automata models. This study takes the Aswan area as a case study in the period from 2001 to 2013 by analyzing the official detailed plan and Google Earth historical imagery. Almost all data was prepared for logistic regression analysis using ArcGIS software and IDRISI® Selva. In our study, a hybrid model of the Markov chain and logistic regression models was applied to identify future urban sprawl in 2037. The findings of this paper simulate the increase in urban area over 24 years from 1.85 to 2.59 km2. These findings highlight the growing risks of urban sprawl and the difficulties opposing the sustainable urban development plans officially proposed for this area..
31. Omar Hamdy, Shichen Zhao, Mohamed A. Salheen, Youhansen Y. Eid, Identifying the risk areas and urban growth by ArcGIS-tools, Geosciences (Switzerland), 10.3390/geosciences6040047, 6, 4, 2016.12, Abouelreesh is one of the most at risk areas in Aswan, Egypt, which suffers from storms, poor drainage, and flash flooding. These phenomena affect the urban areas and cause a lot of damage to buildings and infrastructure. Moreover, the potential for the further realization of dangerous situations increased when the urban areas of Abouelreesh extended towards the risk areas. In an effort to ameliorate the danger, two key issues for urban growth management were studied, namely: (i) estimations regarding the pace of urban sprawl, and (ii) the identification of urban areas located in regions that would be affected by flash floods. Analyzing these phenomena require a lot of data in order to obtain good results, but in our case, the official data or field data was limited so we tried to obtain it by accessing two kinds of free sources of satellite data. First, we used Arc GIS tools to analyze (digital elevation model (DEM)) files in order to study the watershed and better identify the risk area. Second, we studied historical imagery in Google Earth to determine the age of each urban block. The urban growth rate in the risk areas had risen to 63.31% in 2001. Urban growth in the case study area had been influenced by house sizes, because most people were looking to live in bigger houses. The aforementioned problem can be observed by considering the increasing average house sizes from 2001 until 2013, where, especially in risky areas, the average of house sizes had grown from 223 m2 in 2001 to 318 m2 in 2013. The findings from this study would be useful to urban planners and government officials in helping them to make informed decisions on urban development to benefit the community, especially those living in areas at risk from flash flooding from heavy rain events..

However, urban spaces are packed with visitors on festival days, thus affecting accessibility to pedestrian spaces. This research examined visitor satisfaction with accessibility to pedestrian spaces during special events such as festivals. We particularly focused on the Hakata Dontaku festival, which is celebrated in Fukuoka, Japan. We studied three main elements that affect pedestrian satisfaction and perceived accessibility through walking, namely, safety, mobility, and amenities. We first analyzed previous studies and employed analytical hierarchy process to setup indicators for satisfaction measurement. Second, we determined visitor satisfaction through a survey questionnaire, which was conducted during the Hakata Dontaku festival. Third, we assessed the normality of the data set that was obtained from the questionnaire. Finally, we applied structural equation modeling. Results showed that the proposed model was a good fit, as indicated by the goodness of fit test, and the majority of indicators loaded significant values that supported their constructs. Satisfaction with amenities was found to be the most statistically significant variable that influences visitors[U+05F3] perceived accessibility during the Hakata Dontaku festival..
