Takehito KASHIWABARA, Nobuhide UDA, Yasuhisa SHINMOTO, Evaluation of Mode II Interlaminar Fracture Toughness by ENF Test for Toughened Carbon/Epoxy Composite, The 11th Kyushu University-KAIST Symposium on Aerospace Engineering, 2019.11, Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is a composite material that consists a resin as the matrix and carbon fibers as the reinforcement. In recent years, CFRP has been widely used in aerospace and aircraft structures because of its good mechanical properties and lightweight. However, there is a weak point that delamination in the laminate tends to occur easily because it is not reinforced in the thickness direction. The growth of delamination causes the stiffness and strength decrease, and eventually leads to a fracture of the entire structure. Therefore, evaluation of interlaminar fracture toughness and fracture criteria are important for the design of structures made of composite materials. CFRP is known to cause plastic deformation in the matrix. In the interlaminar fracture toughness test, stress concentration occurs at the crack tip, which may cause plastic deformation of the matrix. Therefore, it is considered that the plastic deformation at the crack tip affects the toughness evaluation. In this study, we evaluate the effects of the local matrix yielding on the mode-II interlaminar fracture toughness properties of a toughened CFRP..

81. Preparation of water nano-droplet or silver nanoparticle/nanowire dispersed perflurocarbon 3M Novec HFC-7100 (FC) base nanofluid has been developed for heat transfer enhancement of FC fluid. The good dispersion stability of water-droplet dispersed FC nanofluid was maintained for over 6 months by addition of organic additives into HFC-7100, and the water droplet diameters of FC nanofluid were around 100-150 nm, which can be controlled of additives/water molar ratio. Also, silver nanoparticle dispersed HFE-7x00 base FC nanofluid can be obtained by using surface modification technique. It was found that thermal conductivities of obtained water nano-droplet dispersed FC-nanofluids were increased around 10 % comparing with the base fluids. Heat transfer enhancement could be achieved by using the FC nanofluid as single-phase heat transfer cooling fluid for mock lack-mount PC server liquid cooling..

Mayumi OUCHI, Yoshiyuki ABE, Masato FUKAGAYA, Haruhiko OHTA, Yasuhisa SHINMOTO, Masahide SATO, Ken-ichi IIMURA, Liquid Cooling Network Systems for Energy Conservation in Data Centers, ASME, 2011 InterPACK Conference (IPACK2011), 2011.07, New advanced cooling systems for data centers have been proposed to reduce the energy consumption. In this system, three liquid cooling techniques for CPUs were developed simultaneously depending on the customer’s needs and the performance of the computer. Two of these techniques, which are called “direct cooling”, are with single-phase heat exchanger and two-phase heat exchanger, and the other, which is called “indirect cooling”, is with high performance flat heat pipes. At this stage, the heat removal rate from CPUs achieved 95% from the verification tests in real server. Besides these cooling techniques, the plug-in connectors was also addressed for simplify this system and the synthesis technology of nanofluids for heat transfer enhancement. In this report, current progress of these technology developments is reported. In addition, energy-saving effect will be shown from the verification tests by comparing with conventional air cooling method..

The application of two-phase fluid loop is a promising method for the transportation of a large amount of thermal energy due to the transportation of latent heat. The cooling systems for the different types of SSPS using microwave and laser for the transmission of energy are discussed. Problems inherent in the microwave SSPS is pointed out and the feasibility of laser SSPS as a possible system is explained from a viewpoint of the removal of dissipated thermal energy. The temperature increase in the fiber core is simulated for a structure by using a cooling jacket surrounding a fiber. And the optimal dimensions of the cooling jacket are investigated to minimize the pump power required for the operation of two-phase fluid loop. To increase the critical heat flux on a large heat transfer surface, a new structure of cold plate is devised and its performance is tested on ground..
