20. Magnetic transition in K4Cu4OCl10: A model system of three-dimensional spin-12 tetrahedra
Isolated spin tetrahedral systems with weak intertetrahedral couplings, as have been reported for Cu2Te2O5X2 (X = Cl, Br) and the related compound Cu4Te5O 12Cl4, have received much attention recently because they represent an interesting class of magnets that consist of weakly coupled magnetic clusters and, in particular, they can directly demonstrate the interplay of intertetrahedral couplings with built-in tetrahedral frustration. However, there is much debate about the structural low dimensionality of the Cu-Te-O-Cl(Br) compounds and its effect on the magnetism of the material. Here, we present a model spin tetrahedral system K4Cu4OCl 10, with almost isotropic magnetic coupling within the tetrahedron and three-dimensional connection of the tetrahedra. The system enters a spin-singlet state with a susceptibility maximum at Tmax = 11 K, and then enters an antiferromagnetic order at TN = 4.4 K. The ratio TN/Tmax = 0.40 is close to the TN/T max = 0.38 for Cu2Te2O5Br 2, which is viewed as an indicator of closeness to quantum criticality. Evidence in muon-spin rotation or relaxation suggests an incommensurate ordering. This work shows that the previously revealed ground state in aniso.

K TAKEDA, K MIYAKE, M HITAKA, T KAWAE, N YAGUCHI, M MEKATA, THERMAL-ANALYSIS OF FREEDOM OF SPIN IN PARTIALLY DISORDERED STATE OF THE ANTIFERROMAGNETIC TRIANGULAR LATTICE IN CUFEO2, JOURNAL OF THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, Vol.63, No.6, pp.2017-2020, 1994.06, The partially disordered spins in the triangular antiferromagnetic lattice in CuFeO2 have been studied by heat capacity measurements. A cusp and a sharp peak in the heat capacity curve were observed at T(N1) = 14.0 +/- 0.5 K and T(N2) = 11.0 +/- 0.5 K, respectively. The analysis of heat capacity revealed that the magnetic entropy associated with the anomaly in the heat capacity around T(N2) is attributable to the disordering of one-fifth of Fe3+ spins. The present result is discussed in comparison with partially disordered states of CeSb and PrCo2Si2, anisotropic spin systems with frustration. The heat capacity cusp around T(N1) is compared with the characteristic thermal behavior for frustrated spin systems..
