4. Yasutaka SAGAWA, Significance and Estimation of Chloride Ion Diffusion Coefficient for Durable Concrete Structures, Conference on "Advanced Solutions in Civil Engineering and Transportation" Vietnam and Japan, 2015.06, Chloride ion diffusion coefficient in concrete is an important factor to predict resistance of concrete
structures for salt damage. First, in this study, the results of laboratory tests were presented. Because more effective
use of slag cement and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) is expected from the viewpoint of recycling byproducts
and durability of concrete, the coefficient of the concrete mixed with GGBS was discussed. As the results,
GGBS reduced the effective diffusion coefficient of chloride ion ranging from 1/5 to 1/10. Also, GGBS with specific
surface area of 6000 cm2/g improved the chloride resistance of concrete when water to binder ratio (W/B) was was
smaller than 45%. Second, the application of GGBS with specific surface area of 6000 cm2/g to prestressed concrete
bridge was presented. The effective diffusion coefficient of the concrete used for bridge superstructure showed the
lower value..
