It is important that the higher education system has developed standards of evaluating education, but there are only a few standards for evaluating student affairs, or for evaluating student counseling in higher educational settings in Japan. Therefore, developed tool for self evaluation that is named, “The Inventory for Developing Counseling Services in Japanese Universities and colleges”（in Japanese, Gakuseisoudan Kikan Jujitsu Image Hyou）, for use in universities and college counseling services in Japan, which is based on data of case studies for the development of substantial counseling services for Higher education. Using this inventory, many counseling centers can evaluate the level of each aspect of their counseling services and consider their vision of development and what to do. For example, the mission and the statement of the organization, counseling services offered, its roles and functions, budget, personnel, and staff certification, among others. An example of evaluation using this inventory is introduced. We have discussed the usefulness of self-evaluation using this inventory in Universities and College Counseling Services in Japan.. |
