Academic Degree

Doctor of Engineering

Field of Specialization

Image Information Engineering

Outline Activities

Dedicated to study on basics and application in imaging software engineering; which includes in particular, applied artificial intelligence of computer vision and image recognition/understanding, pattern information analysis of images and shapes, and image-based measurement, with hopes of developing methods for related data processing and analysis, as well as software. The major subjects of study have been medical images (for computer-aided medical image diagnosis) , but not limited. For example, evaluation methods are substantially applicable to general purpose. Biomedical research subjects are often inspired by clinical people with hints.

Research

Research Interests

  • Pictorial/Image Information Processing
keyword : image processing, image understanding, pattern analysis, computer-aided medical image diagnosis, image-based systems
    1970.10.

Current and Past Project

  • Research under Grant-in-aid by the Japanense Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Development and use of computer-aided diagnosis systems using digital images. Its goal is development of technics and systems for supporting medical diagnosis by developing and evaluating automatic diagnosis functions of cancer by computers. Allotment: development of fundamental techniques of medical image recognition for diagnosis support.
  • Medical X-ray images include overlapping background tissues. The essentially additive property of the imaging is invoked in estimating the backgrounds as an envelope for the gray level distribution. By removing the background components, the image may represents more directly the X-ray absorption by the target tissue itself of the imaging.
  • Research under Grant-in-aid by the Japanense Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The goal is development of computer-aided cancer diagnosis and systems through computer technology development of image recognition and visualization. Allotment: research on image understanding for automated cancer diagnosis by using gastric radiographs.
