Ishikawa, Angular Behavior of Jc in GdBCO-Coated Conductors With Crossed Columnar Defects Around ab Plane, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 10.1109/TASC.2016.2637338, 27, 4, 2017.06, We investigated in detail the flux pinning properties around B parallel to ab for GdBCO-coated conductors with crossed colum-nar defects produced by heavy-ion irradiation, where the crossing angle Theta(i) was systematically controlled in the range from +/- 5 degrees to +/- 15 degrees relative to the ab plane. A single peak of critical current den-sity J(c) centered at B parallel to ab occurs for the crossing angle of Theta(i) = +/- 5 degrees, where an upward shift in J(c) can be observed compared to an unirradiated sample. As the crossing angle is larger, the J(c) peak becomes smaller and broader while maintaining the peak at B parallel to ab. Increasing Theta(i) up to +/- 15 degrees, three J(c) peaks emerges at B parallel to ab and at the two irradiation angles, independently from the others. The crossover behavior from the single peak to the triple one around the ab plane is attributed to the strong line tension energy of flux lines around B parallel to ab, which derives from the elliptical nature of the core of flux lines in anisotropic superconductors..

Mukaida, Kim, S. -J., Microwave irradiation on a-axis oriented Y123/Pr123 two-stacked Josephson junctions device, CURRENT APPLIED PHYSICS, 10.1016/j.cap.2015.01.021, 15, 5, 569-573, 2015.05, Two-stacked submicron Josephson junctions devices were fabricated in a-axis oriented YBaCu3O7 and PrBa2Cu3O7 (Y123/Pr123) multi layered thin films using focused ion beam milling technique. The transition temperature and critical current density (J(c)) of the device are about 83 K and 5 x 10(5) A/cm(2) at 20 K, respectively. The device was irradiated with external microwave of 10 GHz and studied at 20 K. The microwave induced voltage steps are observed in I-V characteristics. The supercurrent branch become resistive above a certain microwave power and also the Jc was suppressed as we increased the microwave power. Magnetic field modulation of critical current shows periodicity of about 2000 gauss correspond to the Josephson junctions in the stack..

Masashi Mukaida, Ichinose, Ataru, Mele, Paolo, Matsumoto, Kaname, Horii, Shigeru, Yoshida, Yutaka, An explanation for bends of 1-dimensional nanorods, Superconductivity Centennial Conference, DOI: 10.1016/j.phpro.2012.06.320, 36, 1631-1636, 2012.12, Growth of artificial pinning centers (APCs) in YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) films are discussed. The APCs used in this research are BaZrO3 and BaSnO3 nanorods which are reported by Mele et al. TEM images show these nanorods gradually bend accordingly with approaching to a surface of films. This feature showed a growth pattern like a firework. We explain the feature of the nanorods as follows; At an early growth stage, films grow in a layer by layer growth mode. The surface of the films is flat and very smooth. After the early growth stage, the film surface gradually becomes rough, indicating the film grows in a Stranski-Krastanov growth mode. This roughness was caused by a spiral growth of films with many steps. At the step of YBCO films, nanorod materials such as BaZrO3 are supplied from one direction. Then, the center of nanorods sifts to the same direction of the step flow. Then, the nanorods bend to the edge of the grains in the films. As a grain in spiral growth had a convex surface, nanorods bent to the direction perpendicular to the grain surface. Finally, nanorods in rough grains form firework structures..

Mele, Paolo, Matsumoto, Kaname, Fujita, Kouhei, Yoshida, Yutaka, Takanobu Kiss, Ichinose, Ataru, Masashi Mukaida, Fe-Te-Se epitaxial thin films with enhanced superconducting properties, SUPERCONDUCTOR SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, 10.1088/0953-2048/25/8/084021, 25, 8, 084021, 2012.08, Epitaxial Fe-Te-Se thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition at 250-600 degrees C on SrTiO3 (100), MgO (100), LaAlO3 (100) and CaF2 (100) single crystal substrates. The best superconducting film was grown on CaF2: T-c(onset) = 20.0 K and T-c(0) = 16.18 K with T-dep = 300 degrees C and 3 Hz. Critical current density J(c) (T = 4.2 K) was 0.41 x 10(6) A cm(-2) at 0 T and 0.23 x 10(6) A cm(-2) at 9 T. The angular dependence of J(c) shows a broad c-axis correlated peak when B >= 3 T. .
