Sakaguchi, Subbarrier fusion reactions of an aligned deformed nucleus, Physical Review C, 10.1103/PhysRevC.100.064614, 100, 2019.12, We discuss heavy-ion fusion reactions of a well-deformed odd-mass nucleus at energies around the Coulomb barrier. To this end, we consider the 16O+165Ho reaction and take into account the effect of deformation of 165Ho using the orientation average formula. We show that fusion cross sections are sensitive to magnetic substates of the target nucleus, and cross sections for the side collision, which are relevant to a synthesis of superheavy elements, may be enhanced by a factor of around two by aligning the deformed target nuclei. We also discuss the effect of alignment on the fusion barrier distribution. We find that, for a particular choice of alignment, the shape of barrier distribution becomes similar to a typical shape of barrier distribution for a deformed nucleus with a negative hexadecapole deformation parameter, β4, even if the intrinsic β4 is positive in the target nucleus..

The sensitivity of the elastic scattering at low and high momentum transfers to the density distribution was investigated quantitatively using relativistic impulse approximation calculations. In the high momentum transfer region, where the present data were taken, the differential cross section has an order of magnitude higher sensitivity to the inner part of the 6He density relative to the peripheral part (15:1). This feature makes the obtained data valuable for the deduction of the inner part of the 6He density. The data were compared to a set of calculations assuming different proton and neutron density profiles of 6He. The data are well reproduced by the calculation assuming almost the same profiles of proton and neutron densities around the center of 6He, and a proton profile reproducing the known point-proton radius of 1.94 fm. This finding is consistent with the assumption that the 6He nucleus consists of a rigid α-like core with a two-neutron halo..

Normally the triple α process proceeds via the state (Hoyle states) at Ex = 7.65 MeV in 12C. However, at high temperature T > 109, the highly excited 3α resonance states such as the state at Ex = 9.64 MeV might play a part of the triple α reaction. Unfortunately, the γ-decay probability of the state has not been determined, therefore we planned to measure 1H(12C, 12Cp) reaction without measuring γ-rays. The test experiment using the solid hydrogen target and GAGG(Gd3Al2Ga3O12) was recently carried out at the cyclotron facility in RCNP. The results of the test experiment are reported in this paper..

WAKASA et al., Physical Review C, 10.1103/PhysRevC.96.014604, 96, 1, 2017.07, We report measurements of cross sections and analyzing powers for nucleon-knockout (pnp) reactions of H2, Li6, and C12 at 296 MeV using the RCNP NPOL3 neutron detector and large acceptance spectrometer. The 1s and 1p knockout reactions were successfully separated with a separation-energy resolution of approximately 6 MeV. The resulting data were compared with plane-wave and distorted-wave impulse approximation calculations employing the nucleon-nucleon t matrix in free space. No significant differences were identified in the case of the present analyzing power data, in contrast to the significant reductions observed in (p2p) values. The conventional Pauli blocking and nuclear binding effects with the g matrix and the relativistic effect of nucleon mass reduction in the nuclei are also discussed..

They are compared with results of three-nucleon Faddeev calculations based on the standard, high-precision nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials alone or combined with commonly used three-nucleon force (3NF) models such as the Tucson-Melbourne '99 or the Urbana IX. Predicted 3NF effects localized at backward angles are supported only partially by the data. The data are also compared to predictions based on locally regularized chiral NN potentials. An estimation of theoretical truncation uncertainties in the consecutive orders of chiral expansion suggests that the observed discrepancies between this modern theory and the data could probably be explained by including chiral 3NF's in future calculations. A systematic comparison to the deuteron analyzing power data previously taken at incident energies from 70 to 294 MeV/nucleon clearly shows that not only the cross section but also the analyzing powers reveal growing 3NF effects when the three-nucleon system energy is increased..

Yoshida, Systematic analysis of inelastic α scattering off self-conjugate A=4n nuclei, Physical Review C, 10.1103/PhysRevC.97.014601, 97, 1, 2018.01, We systematically measured the differential cross sections of inelastic α scattering off self-conjugate A=4n nuclei at two incident energies Eα=130MeV and 386MeV at Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka University. The measured cross sections were analyzed by the distorted-wave Born-approximation (DWBA) calculation using the single-folding potentials, which are obtained by folding macroscopic transition densities with the phenomenological αN interaction. The DWBA calculation with the density-dependent αN interaction systematically overestimates the cross sections for the ΔL=0 transitions. However, the DWBA calculation using the density-independent αN interaction reasonably well describes all the transitions with ΔL=0-4. We examined uncertainties in the present DWBA calculation stemming from the macroscopic transition densities, distorting potentials, phenomenological αN interaction, and coupled channel effects in C12. It was found that the DWBA calculation is not sensitive to details of the transition densities nor the distorting potentials, and the phenomenological density-independent αN interaction gives reasonable results. The coupled-channel effects are negligibly small for the 21+ and 31- states in C12, but not for the 02+ state. However, the DWBA calculation using the density-independent interaction at Eα=386MeV is still reasonable even for the 02+ state. We concluded that the macroscopic DWBA calculations using the density-independent interaction are reliably applicable to the analysis of inelastic α scattering at Eα∼100MeV/u..

The cross sections of the quasi-free (p, 2p) reaction on 14,16,18,22,24O were measured at intermediate energies. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions based on the distorted wave impulse approximation and shell-model psd valence-space spectroscopic factors. The reduction factors, which are the ratio of the experimental cross sections to the theoretical predictions, show no apparent dependence on the proton–neutron separation energy difference. The result is compatible with the result of the (e, ep) reaction on stable targets and with the predictions of recent ab initio calculations..

This probe, now available through the production of N12 as a secondary rare-isotope beam, is exothermic, is strongly absorbed at the surface of the target nucleus, and provides selectivity for spin-transfer excitations. All three properties enhance the excitation of the IVSMR compared to other, primarily light-ion, probes, which have been used to study the IVSMR thus far. The Zr90(N12,C12) reaction was measured and the excitation energy spectra up to about 70 MeV for both the spin-transfer and non-spin-transfer channels were deduced separately by tagging the decay by γ emission from the C12 ejectile. Besides the well-known Gamow-Teller and isobaric analog transitions, a clear signature of the IVSMR was identified. By comparing with the results from light-ion reactions on the same target nucleus and theoretical predictions, the suitability of this new probe for studying the IVSMR was confirmed..

The extracted strengths for Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions from Sn132 leading to Sb132 exhibit the GT giant resonance (GTR) at the excitation energy of 16.3±0.4(stat)±0.4(syst) MeV with the width of Γ=4.7±0.8 MeV. The integrated GT strength up to Ex=25 MeV is SGT-=53±5(stat)-10+11(syst), corresponding to 56% of Ikeda's sum rule of 3(N-Z)=96. The present result accurately constrains the Landau-Migdal parameter as g′=0.68±0.07, thanks to the high sensitivity of the GTR energy to g′. In combination with previous studies on the GTR for Zr90 and Pb208, the result of this work shows the constancy of this parameter in the nuclear chart region with (N-Z)/A=0.11 to 0.24 and A=90 to 208..

The relative energy spectrum of 13Be is compared to Transfer-to-the-Continuum calculations which use as structure inputs the overlaps of the 14Be ground-state wave function, computed in a three-body model, with the unbound states of the 13Be residual nucleus. The key role of neutron p-wave orbital in the interpretation of the low-relative-energy part of the spectrum is discussed..
