(Generative) Linguistics/Intercultural Communication Studies
Outline Activities
[Research Interests]
My primary research interests lie in investigating the interface between Syntax and Discourse. I am currently engaged in the project; how information structures are mapped on Syntax and how they induce Syntactic Island Effects. In particular, I have explored in the inner structures of various kinds of adverbial clauses in English and Japanese and the connection with their main clauses. In addition to the theoretical perspective of linguistics, I am also interested in practical studies on Interpretation and Translation between English and Japanese. Based on the linguistic and literary theories of Interpretation and Translation, I work on research projects; how they can be incorporated into ELT Methodology and how they contribute to Language Development.

[Teaching]
- Academic English

- Methodology of Presentation

[Professional and Outreach Activities]
I have served as a judge at Student Interpretation Contest held in Fukuoka and Yamaguchi and given a lecture on the relationship of Interpretation and Linguistics. Also, I gave a lecture and demonstration on how to teach English to elementary school students in Japan for elementary school teachers.
