|
I specialize in "testing (measurement/evaluation) policies and systems. I am particularly interested in the impact of the university entrance examination system on the high school-university connection system. I also apply my knowledge of educational measurement theory as a tool to better understand "testing," but I specialize in sociological, historical, and institutional approaches. As for my recent research, my main work is "Quantitative Historical Sociology of the Postwar University Entrance Selection System," in which I draw the trajectory of postwar university entrance examinations from test data that have been buried in historical documents.
At the root of my research style is the idea that rather than simply rejecting "tests" out of hand, this would lead to a cessation of thinking about "tests" and, more importantly, would prevent progress in "test" research and stagnate our understanding of "tests" for better or worse. Therefore, I am aiming to conduct research that considers "testing" as a "necessary evil" of society in a realistic manner, and then to think about improvements, system changes, or better ways to use it in order to make it better.
Furthermore, since "testing" research is an interdisciplinary field of specialization that combines humanities subjects such as pedagogy, psychology, and sociology with science subjects such as informatics and statistics, it is a research field that is suited to people who have a certain degree of strength in numbers and are interested in a variety of things. This is the perfect field for people who are not satisfied with existing academic fields and want to try something that only they do. Since January 2021, I have been working as a Cross Appointment Professor in the Research and Development Department of the National Center for University Entrance Examinations, and since April 2024, I have served as the Director of the Social Cluster of the Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies.

Professional and Outreach Activities
He is a member of the J-Surp Research Association, a limited liability partnership (LLP), and has experience in developing and educating university student surveys until March 2024. (http://jsaap.jp/index.html)
As President of the Association of College Admissions Professionals, she trains and encourages the college admissions profession.
He has been instrumental in the establishment of agreements for overseas high school-university linkage centers in the College of Education, and to date, has established overseas centers in Shanghai and Shenzhen, China, and Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. In practice, we are making efforts to conduct overseas research trials as high school-university collaboration activities overseas, and to function as a practical training site for the overseas fieldwork of the students of the Faculty of Education. Shenzhen Third High School, and the Thai Junior High School attached to Yanagawa High School.
He has served as a member of external evaluation committees and as an external advisor and consultant for Ritsumeikan University, Notre Dame Seishin University, Meisei University, Toyo Eiwa University, J. F. Oberlin University, and Saga University.
She has also conducted joint research with companies at WAO Corporation and Nishinippon Shimbun, and has been commissioned to conduct research by the Fukuoka Prefectural Education Agency and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology..
