九州大学理学研究院 国際化推進室長兼生物科学部門教授で、分子生物学・微生物学で2001年にオレゴン州立大学でPh.D.学位取得。2015年より理学研究院所属。理学研究院の教育研究国際化推進室(現・国際推進室)として 、部局の国際化に関する活動を進めている。 研究では、環境汚染物質の微生物代謝機構、有害元素の微生物地球化学、極限環境の微生物生態系、野生動物の共生マイクロバイオームについて、環境中の微生物資源やゲノム情報を利用し、生態系機能に影響を及ぼす微生物機能や相互作用の解明に取り組んでいる。

Outline of Social Contribution and International Cooperation activities

  • 理学部独自の短期留学プログラム「OSSEP: Oregon State Science English Program : 英語でサイエンスを学ぶ」を、オレゴン州立大学の理学系の学科との連携により企画し、2017年度より実施している(https://www.sci.kyushu-u.ac.jp/international/ossep.html)。第1回2017年度理学部生19名、第2回2018年度理学部生14名、第3回2019年度理学部生25名が参加した。
