Profile
We study spectral analysis of operators on infinite dimensional spaces. In particular, We analyze the spectral analysis of quantum field theory on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds from a mathematical standpoint, using operator theory, the theory of semigroups, stochastic analysis, and functional and path integrals. The Hamiltonian appearing in quantum field theory can be regarded mathematically as a self-adjoint operator on a Hilbert space. The spectrum of the self-adjoint operator is analyzed in a non-perturbative and abstract way. Specifically, our goals are to evaluate the existence or absence of the ground state of the Hamiltonian, to analyze IR and UV divergences, spectral scattering theory, resonance, renormalization theory, Gibbs measure, and so on. Recently, We have also studied the representation theory of CCR and lattice Schrödinger operators. The keywords are Feynman-Kac formula, quantum field theory, Gibbs measure, renormalization, spectral analysis, Schrödinger operator, boson-Fock space, infinite-dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, exponential decay property, Gaussian decay property, UV divergence, IR divergence, existence and absence of ground states, semigroups, noncommutative Perron-Frobenius theorem, Kato potential, Bernstein function, Pauli-Fierz model, Nelson model, spin-boson model, noncommutative harmonic oscillator (NCHO), Rabi model, spectral zeta function, time operator, CCR, Laplacian on a lattice, semi-classical analysis.

    Since the 1990s, Professor Fumio Hiroshima has consistently conducted research in mathematical quantum field theory based on the analysis of self-adjoint operators on Hilbert spaces, and has produced numerous significant contributions. In recent years, he has developed methods for analyzing quantum fields by employing the Wiener–Itô–Segal isomorphism in combination with functional integrals and stochastic analysis, thereby providing non-perturbative solutions to many problems that had been difficult to treat by conventional perturbative approaches.

    Among his remarkable achievements over the past five years are the following:
    the renormalization of ultraviolet divergences in the Nelson model using functional integrals, in collaboration with Massimiliano Gubinelli and József Lőrinczi;
    the proof of self-adjointness and exponential decay of ground states for the semi-relativistic Pauli–Fierz model;
    and the construction of Gibbs measures for the spin-boson model and their use in establishing the existence, uniqueness, and locality of ground states, in collaboration with Masao Hirokawa and József Lőrinczi.
    Each of these results has been highly regarded in the field. In particular, the first achievement resolved a problem that had remained open since the 1960s in a paper by Edward Nelson.

    Professor Hiroshima’s approach is characterized by its foundation in functional integral representations of semigroups, through which he performs analysis using probabilistic representations of Gibbs measures associated with each model. Unlike traditional perturbative methods that rely on the assumption of small coupling constants, his methods allow for analysis over significantly broader parameter ranges. In the renormalization of the Nelson model, his method has the advantage that the logarithmic divergence term to be subtracted from the Hamiltonian arises naturally from the diagonal part of the pair interaction.

    Of particular importance is his construction of Gibbs measures on the càdlàg path space, which consists of discontinuous paths. This breakthrough opened a new line of research for analyzing ground states of various models.

    Moreover, Professor Hiroshima’s techniques have found applications beyond quantum field theory—for instance, in the study of the multiplicity of the lowest eigenvalue of the non-commutative harmonic oscillator, recently investigated by Masato Wakayama and others, in collaboration with Itaru Sasaki.

    These techniques are presented in a self-contained manner in a comprehensive monograph of over 500 pages co-authored with József Lőrinczi and Volker Betz, and are expected to contribute significantly to future developments in this area.

    Taken together, these outstanding contributions make Professor Hiroshima a highly deserving recipient of the Analysis Prize.

    The spectral zeta function ζg(s;g2+τ)=∑n=0∞[Formula presented] of the quantum Rabi Hamiltonian is considered, where τ>0 and En(g) denotes nth eigenvalue of the quantum Rabi Hamiltonian H. Let ζ(s;τ)=∑n=0∞[Formula presented] be the Hurwitz zeta function. It is shown that lim|g|→∞⁡ζg(s;g2+τ)=2ζ(s;τ). Moreover the path measure Π∞ associated with the ground state of H is constructed on a discontinuous path space, and several applications are shown.

    The purpose of this article is twofold:
    1) On one hand, we rigorously derive the Newton--Maxwell equation in the Coulomb gauge from first principles of quantum electrodynamics in agreement with the formal Bohr correspondence principle of quantum mechanics.
    2) On the other hand, we establish the global well-posedness of the Newton--Maxwell system on energy-spaces under weak assumptions on the charge distribution.

    Both results improve the state of the art, and are obtained by incorporating semiclassical and measure theoretical techniques. One of the novelties is the use of quantum propagation properties in order to build global solutions of the Newton--Maxwell equation.

    We prove the existence, uniqueness, and strict positivity of ground states of the possibly massless renormalized Nelson operator under an infrared regularity condition and for Kato decomposable electrostatic potentials fulfilling a binding condition. If the infrared regularity condition is violated, then we show non-existence of ground states of the massless renormalized Nelson operator with an arbitrary Kato decomposable potential. Furthermore, we prove the existence, uniqueness, and strict positivity of ground states of the massless renormalized Nelson operator in a non-Fock representation where the infrared condition is unnecessary. Exponential and superexponential estimates on the pointwise spatial decay and the decay with respect to the boson number for elements of spectral subspaces below localization thresholds are provided. Moreover, some continuity properties of ground state eigenvectors are discussed. Byproducts of our analysis are a hypercontractivity bound for the semigroup and a new remark on Nelson's operator theoretic renormalization procedure. Finally, we construct path measures associated with ground states of the renormalized Nelson operator. Their analysis entails improved boson number decay estimates for ground state eigenvectors, as well as upper and lower bounds on the Gaussian localization with respect to the field variables in the ground state. As our results on uniqueness, positivity, and path measures exploit the ergodicity of the semigroup, we restrict our attention to one matter particle. All results are non-perturbative.

    The non-commutative harmonic oscillators Q α β NH with parameters α, β > 0, αβ > 1 and two-photon quantum Rabi models H △ , g 2 p with △ ≥ 0, | g | < 1 2 are both extensions of the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator. In the special case where α = β and △ = 0, it is immediately seen that Q α α NH is unitarily equivalent to α 2 − 1 1 − 4 g 2 H 0 , g 2 p . The purpose of this paper is to establish relationships between Q α β NH and H △ , g 2 p for the general cases △ > 0 and α ≠ β, and to show the fiber decomposition of Q α β NH in terms of H △ , g 2 p . We also construct Feynman-Kac formulas for e − t H △ , g 2 p and e − t Q α β NH . It is then considered the asymptotic behaviors of the spectral zeta function ζ2p(s) of H △ , g 2 p .

    Abstract: We consider a family of Schrödinger operators on the one-dimensional lattice, where is a standard discrete Laplacian, is a Kronecker delta function, and and are parameters. Eigenvalue behavior of the operators and their dependence on the parameters are explicitly derived. Moreover, we obtain asymptotics for the eigenvalues as the distance between two elements of the potential function support approaches infinity.

    This research is an experimental verification and theoretical study of the existence of the so-called "time operators". Let H be the Hamiltonian of the system. T is called a strong time operator iff there exists a pair (H,T) satisfying the weak Weil relation. This study is an extremely challenging research to experimentally confirm the existence of time operators, which is a concept in pure mathematics. Although the research did not proceed as originally planned due to COVID 2019, we were able to hold a workshop on the time operator, publish lecture notes, and present our results both in Japan and abroad. We also verified Arai's inequality in simulations.
