    Photon energy is higher than the (γ,n) threshold, allowing it to interact with the nuclei of materials with high z properties and liberate fast neutrons. This represents a potentially harmful source of radiation for humans and the environment. This study validated the Monte Carlo simulation, using the particle and heavy-ion transport code system (PHITS) on a TrueBeam 10-MV linear particle accelerator's head shielding model and then used this PHITS code to simulate a photo-neutron spectrum for the transport of the beam. The results showed that, when comparing the simulated to measured PDD and crosslines, 100% of the γ-indexes were <1 (γ3%/3mm) for both simulations, for both phase-space data source and a mono energy source. Neutron spectra were recorded in all parts of the TrueBeam's head, as well as photon neutron spectra at three points on the beamline.

    Previous radiation protection-measure studies for medical staff who perform X-ray fluoroscopy have employed simulations to investigate the use of protective plates and their shielding effectiveness. Incorporating directional information enables users to gain a clearer understanding of how to position protective plates effectively. Therefore, in this study, we propose the visualization of the directional vectors of scattered rays. X-ray fluoroscopy was performed; the particle and heavy-ion transport code system was used in Monte Carlo simulations to reproduce the behavior of scattered rays in an X-ray room by reproducing a C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy system. Using the calculated results of the scattered-ray behavior, the vectors of photons scattered from the phantom were visualized in three dimensions. A model of the physician was placed on the directional vectors and dose distribution maps to confirm the direction of the scattered rays toward the physician when the protective plate was in place. Simulation accuracy was confirmed by measuring the ambient dose equivalent and comparing the measured and calculated values (agreed within 10%). The directional vectors of the scattered rays radiated outward from the phantom, confirming a large amount of backscatter radiation. The use of a protective plate between the patient and the physician’s head part increased the shielding effect, thereby enhancing radiation protection for the physicians compared to cases without the protective plate. The use of directional vectors and the surrounding dose-equivalent distribution of this method can elucidate the appropriate use of radiation protection plates.

    <p>In nuclear medicine, assessing residual radioactivity before patient release is essential. It is typically assessed by radiation detection with a survey meter. This protocol inadvertently exposes to radiation and requires proficiency in the use of the survey meter. This study developed a mixed reality system designed to provide exposure-free training during patient release examination. This system involves a virtual radiation source with visualized radiation emission on the corresponding part of the human mannequin. The time response characteristics of the survey meter to changes with the time constant in addition to the source distance were simulated in realtime.</p>

    <p>Recently, a new method that applies vector tomography to laser-induced fluorescence has been introduced, enabling the measurement of quasi-periodic two-dimensional velocity field in plasma [H. Arakawa <i>et al.</i>, Plasma Fusion Res. <b>18</b>, 1401032 (2023)]. In this study, we experimentally demonstrated this method in a linear magnetized plasma and presented the initial measurement results. The observed two-dimensional velocity field allowed the evaluation of Reynolds force and its energy transfer.</p>

    Nonlinear fluid simulation of drift wave turbulence in the presence of symmetry breaking particle source is performed for the cylindrical magnetized plasmas. It is demonstrated that the symmetry breaking of the system directly affects the selection rule of structure formations, the streamers disappear, and the zonal flows are enhanced in the case with the symmetry breaking. The symmetry breaking is introduced in the flux-driven simulation by inducing the particle source whose amplitude depends on the azimuthal angle. The symmetry breaking mode is driven stationarily, and the nonlinear process of the drift waves is significantly modified. By scanning the amplitude of the symmetry breaking source, the structure formation processes are systematically investigated. In addition, the nonlinear forces of the turbulence show the relaxation of the density gradient and the drive of the perpendicular/parallel flows in a two-dimensional manner.

    <p>Multi-field singular value decompositions (SVDs) is applied to turbulence obtained in a cylindrical magnetized plasma, PANTA. This method enables us to obtain the spatial mode structures with common temporal evolution of different physical quantities, such as the fluctuations of density and flows. Turbulence driven particle transport is evaluated by the method. It is shown that only the coupling of the same mode drives the transport, which stems from the orthogonality of the SVD. Thanks to this characteristics, the number of degrees of freedom which plays roles for the transport dynamics could be significantly reduced.</p>

    The use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is expanding owing to its installation in linear accelerators for radiation therapy, and the imaging dose induced by this system has become the center of attention. Here, the dose to patients caused by the CBCT imager was investigated. Organ doses and effective doses for male and female mesh-type reference computational phantoms (MRCPs) and pelvis CBCT mode, routinely used for pelvic irradiation, were estimated using the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport Code System. The simulation results were confirmed based on the point-dose measurements. The estimated organ doses for male MRCPs with/without raised arms and for female MRCPs with/without raised arms were 0.00286-35.6 mGy, 0.00286-35.1 mGy, 0.00933-39.5 mGy, and 0.00931-39.0 mGy, respectively. The anticipated effective doses for male MRCPs with/without raised arms and female MRCPs with/without raised arms irradiated by pelvis CBCT mode were 4.25 mSv, 4.16 mSv, 7.66 mSv, and 7.48 mSv, respectively. The results of this study will be useful for patients who undergo image-guided radiotherapy with CBCT. However, because this study only covered one type of cancer with one type of imager, and image quality was not considered, more studies should be conducted to estimate the radiation dose from imaging devices in radiation therapy.

    コーンビームCT(CBCT)を線形加速器(LINAC)内にインストールすることにより放射線治療への使用が拡大していることから、CBCT撮像装置により生じる患者線量を調べた。骨盤照射にルーチンで用いられる男性用及び女性用mesh-type reference computational phantom(MRCP)と骨盤CBCTモードに対する臓器線量と実効線量を推定し、point-dose計測により確認した。男性用MRCPに対する推定臓器線量はraised armの有り無しで各々0.00286~35.6mGyと0.00286~35.1mGyであり、女性用MRCPに対する推定臓器線量はraised armの有り無しで各々0.00933~39.5mGyと0.00931~39.0mGyであった。骨盤CBCTモードで照射時の実効線量は、男性用MRCPに対してraised armの有り無しで各々4.25mSvと4.16mSvであり、女性用MRCPに対してraised armの有り無しで各々7.66mSvと7.48mSvであった。

    <p>A new method of vector tomography by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy is proposed for the evaluation of the velocity field of quasi-coherent structure in linear magnetized plasma. Here, the two-dimensional velocity field was reconstructed with measuring synchronization of azimuthal reference probes and line-integrated LIF. The laser installation condition is designed to move in a radial direction perpendicular to the laser path. We applied the proposed method to a quasi-coherent flow obtained from a direct numerical turbulence simulation and demonstrated that the Reynolds stress and its force can be evaluated if its flow structure is maintained.</p>

    <p>A solitary vortex organization process in drift-wave type fluctuations interacting with the zonal flow was identified experimentally in a linear magnetized plasma. An azimuthal probe array was used to evaluate temporal changes in the amplitude and phase in the density fluctuations. Excitation/damping of the solitary vortex is synchronized with zonal perturbation, and the waveform of drift-wave type fluctuation and its harmonics also changes synchronously. The solitary vortex is formed primarily through the phase modulation of the fundamental drift-wave type fluctuation and its harmonics.</p>

    <p>Prediction of time evolution of multi-scale turbulence is performed by using Long-short term memory networks. The time series data is obtained by Langmuir probes in a linear magnetized plasma device, PANTA. The simultaneous prediction of high and low frequency components of turbulence is shown to be possible within several tens percent accuracy. The prediction accuracy depends on the initial network, which can be controlled by reducing the learning rate.</p>

    CTの逐次近似画像再構成(IR)の一手法である事後確率最大化(MAP)推定法は解像特性をほぼ維持しながらノイズ特性を大幅に改善できるので、CT検査における新しい画像再構成法として注目されている。本研究では、MAP推定法のコンピュータアルゴリズムを独自に作成し、シミュレーションで得られたディジタルファントムのサイノグラムに適用することで、IR法による再構成画像をフィルタ補正逆投影(FBP)法と比較する。目的関数の最適化にガウス・ザイデル法を用いると、5回の反復計算で再構成画像はほとんど変化しなくなり反復計算は収束することが分かった。CT検査における標準的な照射線量においてノイズを関心領域内のCT値の標準偏差(SD)で評価すると、IR法による再構成画像のノイズはFBP法と比較して58.3&#37;減少した。さらに、照射線量を少なくするとFBP画像のノイズは急激に増大するが、IR画像のノイズは照射線量に関係なくほぼ一定値を示すことが示された。したがって、CT検査時の照射線量をかなり低下させても、線量を低下させないFBP画像と同じSDとなる画像をIR法で再構成できるため、患者被曝線量の大幅な低減が可能となることが示唆された。(著者抄録)

    <p>直線プラズマ実験において、ドリフト波と軸方向流れシアによる不安定性の競合が観測され、粒子束・運動量束間の干渉に対する理解が進展している。この現象の模擬を目指し、シミュレーションコードの開発を行った。シミュレーションでは、軸方向運動量ソースを与え、軸方向流れを模擬する。その上で、軸方向流れシアによる不安定性の時空間構造の抽出を行う。</p>

    プラズマ乱流輸送研究においては、これまで乱流と流れという2体系の相互作用が主に考えられており、孤立渦・飛沫といった高次非線形構造の影響は小さいとして、実験・理論共にほとんど考慮されていなかった。近年の申請者らの研究で3次・4次的に形成された構造観測により、高次非線形構造形成に伴い、輸送が大きく変化する乱流状態を発見した。本研究では、これを更に発展させ、様々な乱流条件において高次非線形構造の輸送を評価し、高次非線形構造による輸送ダイナミクスの系統的理解を目指す。
