金属材料の強度・延性,破壊挙動,摩擦摩耗特性を中心に研究しています.例えば,不純物の銅を含む鋼の破壊特性についての研究は,鉄鋼材料のリサイクルで銅が混入するため極めて重要となります.銅による鋼の脆化は,ニオブやニッケルを添加することにより無害化できることを明らかにしました.  2006年度からは自動車・家電産業に用いられるプレス成型用金型の長寿命化を図る研究を精力的に進めています.自動車などの鋼板は年々高強度化さてきていますが,それに伴い金型の負担が増し,寿命の低下が問題となっています.そこで、ショット処理による微細凹凸付けと窒化処理を組み合わせた新しい金型表面処理技術を提案しました.関連特許申請を行い,H19年度からの戦略的基盤技術高度化支援事業に採択され,事業化を進めています.2010年度からは温間・熱間成形にも対応するため,貝殻を原料とした環境に優しい高温潤滑剤の開発を行ない,容易に使えるスプレー缶化に成功(2013年)しました(2012-14年戦略的基盤技術高度化支援事業).  近年は鋼に種々の表面硬化処理を行った場合の耐摩耗性についての研究および、金属材料の延性を、内部ミクロ組織と局部伸びとの関係から研究しています.2015年からは大型放射光施設(SPring8)を利用した金属の内部観察を試みています。これらは講座に配属された学生,大学院生も交えて進めています.授業として,学部2年生対象の材料工学実験・演習などを担当しています.

    The wear properties of sintered pure iron that were subjected to two different heat treatments, nitriding-quenching (NQ) and carburizing-quenching (CQ) were investigated. A martensite layer wasformed on the surface layer in each treatment, but the hardness of the NQ martensite was much higher than that of the CQ martensite. On the other hand, the wear resistance of the CQ specimen was slightly higher than that of the NQ martensite, despite such lower value of initial hardness. The hardness aftersling tests of the CQ surface remarkably hardened versus the NQ surface. EBSD analysis confirmed the plastic deformation on the CQ surface along the sliding direction, so the strain hardening might achieve better wear resistance. On the other hand, the NQ surface did not deform during sliding, and its wear might be influenced by the brittle fracture.

    <p>Controlling the shape, size, and arrangement of residual defects (pores) in additive-manufactured materials is essential for improving their strength and reliability. However, quantifying the shape and arrangement of individual pores in such materials remains a challenge. This study aimed to clarify the effect of pore configurations that determine the tensile properties of laser powder-based fusion (L-PBF) materials. First, the 3D pore-configurations of pure titanium L-PBF materials fabricated under different beam energy densities were visualized using high-intensity X-ray computed tomography (CT). Subsequently, the porosity, volume equivalent diameter, and sphericity of each pore were quantified by 3D analysis of each CT image, and their correlations with the tensile properties were analyzed. The results showed that, unlike conventional sintered materials, the 0.2% yield stress did not correlate with the porosity of the specimen, suggesting heterogeneity in the hydrostatic component of stress acting on pores. This was connected to periodic fluctuation in the local porosity of the layers sliced perpendicular to the building direction. Furthermore, for specimens fabricated under relatively low beam energy densities, the porosity of the lowest density sliced layer was negatively correlated with tensile strength and total elongation, whereby the local low-density layer dominated the tensile properties. For specimens fabricated under the high energy densities where keyholes were generated, the maximum pore diameter rather than the local layer porosity was more predominate. Thus, it is evident that local structures such as local low-density regions or larger pores dominate the ductile properties of Ti L-PBF materials in terms of their tensile properties.</p>

    To establish a quantitative relationship between fabrication parameters, pore-configuration, and mechanical properties in porous materials, the pore configurations were visualized by X-ray computed tomography (CT) about pure Ti-AM specimens fabricated under different laser beam conditions. Radius and sphericity of all pores were obtained by image analysis. Furthermore, using the 0th persistent homology, the pore configurations were qualified by the pair of birth and death values, b and d for all pores: |b| means a pore radius and d correspond to a half distance between adjacent pores. The significant correlations were confirmed between tensile strength/elongation and the parameters: the maximum value of |b|, the ratio of the mean values of |b| and d (neck geometry), and the sphericity of the largest pore. These were proposed as useful structural parameters representing 3D pore-structure in porous materials.

    For a high-density pure iron sintered compact without open pores, the 3D pore configurations at different strain levels during ductility tests were visualized by X-ray computed tomography (CT). In addition, each three-dimensional structure was quantified as a two-dimensional scatter plot (i.e., persistence diagram, )by 1st persistent homology (PH) analysis. By comparing the persistence diagram, specific local pore configurations sensitive to changes in strain were extracted. The results showed that, just prior to fracture, adjacent closed pores formed pore-clusters and coalesce to each other into larger pores. This process is consistent with the theory of ductile fracture of the void model proposed for wrought metals.

    粉末床溶融法(PBF)による実用部品の実用化においては強度信頼性の検証が求められ,そのため PBF材の構造および欠陥に関する研究が進んだ.積層・後処理条件に起因する微細組織,造形過程に形成される微小欠陥や残留気孔[1,2]が強度低下要因して示唆されている.材料強度の信頼性向上のためには,構造因子(微細組織および残留気孔配置)と破壊強度,さらには構造因子と製造条件の相関を定量化し,破壊強度向上のための構図お設計,さらにとそれを実現する製造条件の最適化技術の指針必要である.近年,高輝度X線CT法による金属材料内部の3Dマイクロボイド観測が可能となった[3].そこで,本研究では構造設計の指針を構築すべく,異なる条件で造形されたレーザーPBF(LPBF)材内部の3D気孔形態をX線CT法によって可視化し,それらを画像解析することによって気孔形態を数値化し,引張強度との関係を解析した.

    The use of Cr or Mn as alloying elements plays a prominent role in sintered iron-based materials, as they possess the ability to enhance the strength of materials through the addition of small quantities, due to their high quenching multiples. However, Cr and Mn, which are also a readily oxidisable element, is preferentially oxidised by the presence of H₂O and CO2 in the atmosphere in the conventional carburising process using hydrocarbon-modified gas. The oxidation of Cr and Mn during carburising represents a significant challenge to address, as it can lead to significant variations in the mechanical strength of sintered and carburised materials. We focused on low-pressure carburisation, which has the potential to suppress Cr and Mn oxidation. This paper will demonstrate such an effect on the tensile properties of Fe-Cr and Fe-(Cr, Mn) sintered steels applied by the low-pressure carburisation.

    レーザービームを用いた金属粉末床溶融積層造形法(L-PBF 法)では, 積層条件によって未溶融気孔や金属溶融池に発生する球形気孔が残存し, 機械的強度の低下やばらつきの要因となり, L-PBF 材の実用化に向けて解決すべき課題の一つである. さきに著者らは, L-PBF 材の機械的強度のばらつきの要因解析のため, X 線トモグラフィー(X 線CT)法によって内部気孔配置を可視化し, 積層方向に一定範囲で気孔率が振動することを報告した1). しかしながら, 解析対象とした観察領域が狭く, 気孔率の変動周期の定量化精度が低く, 周期性の成因の議論には至らなかった.そこで本研究では, Ti L-PBF 材中の気孔配置について, 前報より広い領域のX 線CT 像を観察対象として, 気孔率の周期性について解析し, その変動要因について考察した.

    自動車や家電に使われる鋼板は年々高強度化されてきているが、それに伴い成形不良やプレス金型の寿命低下が問題となっている。このため、温間あるいは熱間にて成形を行なう技術が必要であるが、対応する潤滑剤がないことなど実用化が遅れているのが現状である。本研究では、トライボロジー効果の高い高温潤滑剤および製造方法の開発を目的とする。潤滑剤は産業廃棄物である貝殻を原料とするのが特徴であり、環境と低コストを配慮している。

    自動車部品用板材料は、年々高強度化され、それに伴い量産プレス金型表面への負荷が大きくなっている。現在、TiCなどの皮膜処理が一般的に適用されているが、皮膜剥離による摩耗・損傷が発生し、耐久性の向上が課題となっている。
    この課題を克服するために、ハイブリッドショットによる表面形状制御と低温窒化処理により、潤滑性と硬度を兼備した新しい表面改質技術を開発し、金型の長寿命化および高精度化を図る。

Outline of Social Contribution and International Cooperation activities

  • 産学連携となる、平成22年度工学部EEP「教員の企業内産学連携と実践力養成工学教育」に参加。
    熱処理会社にて、”最新の鋼材表面技術と今後の展開”をテーマに自身の研究発表、討論会を行い、技術交流、人脈形成を進めた。

  • 社)日本熱処理技術協会主催、平成24年度第3回熱処理技術セミナー<熱処理応用講座>にて講師を務める。企業の技術者に「ハイテン材加工金型の表面処理と環境配慮型潤滑剤」と題し、テキスト作成および講義を行なった。2012.11.15. 東京工業大学 百年記念館。技術セミナー後、9名の方と名刺交換。多くの技術者の質問に答えながら自身の研究を紹介、大変興味を持っていただいた。
