研究活動では,地盤工学に関わる基礎研究と社会ニーズに対応できる実装研究に取り組んでいる.海外に向けての学術的な情報発信を意識している. 現在,主に取り組んでいる研究テーマは下記のとおりである. 1) 性能規定型の新しい地盤改良・補強技術の開発 2) 産業副産物の地盤工学的有効利用 3) 土構造物の品質管理手法の開発 4) 固化処理土の劣化予測および長寿命化技術 5) 気候変動に伴う河川堤防の危険度評価と適応策に関する研究 6) 不飽和土質力学に関する基礎的研究 教育活動では,学部・大学院生への講義・実験・演習系科目を担当している.研究室では,ゼミや研究活動を通じて,学生の国際性,専門性,自主性が育まれる教育を心掛けている.社会活動では,学協会の研究・運営委員会に積極的に参加しており,行政機関の実務委員会の委員としても活動を行っている.

    近年,想定を超える降雨や地震等の災害外力の増加が懸念される中,道路盛土や河川堤防,宅地盛土等の崩壊が多発しており,盛土構造物の品質・防災機能を向上させることが,重要な技術課題となっている。一般に盛土は、天端を転圧ローラ等で締固め、その締固め度で管理されているが、法面の健全性を直接的に管理する規定はない。本研究では,法面の締固めの重要性を検証するために,1)模型実験を通して,法面の締固め品質の違いが,その健全性に与える影響を明らかにすること,2)現地実験を通して,盛土法面の締固め装置(新技術)を用いた品質改善効果の確認と,効率的な盛土法面の施工・品質管理方法を提示することを目指す。
