At this point I focus on my educational and research activities. Mainly I'm trying to find a better way to teach mathematics to non-math major students and partially in response to Covid-19 situation I'm looking into the combination of on-line learning and in class group work and its future use in university education. I'm a part of several working groups and committees in the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation where I work on development and improvement of classes, modern teaching methods and approaches. I 'm looking into new areas of research related to astrophysical fluid dynamics, learning new techniques and finding ways to utilize my past knowledge with new challenges in research. I 'm working on expanding my cooperation with researchers in Japan and abroad in the other fields than just mathematics.

研究テーマ：My research is mainly concerned with the qualitative theory of partial differential equations coming from fluid mechanics. At this point my focus is on the two most profound models - Navier-Stokes-Fourier system and complete Euler system of equations. These describe the motion of viscous and inviscid fluids including the heat transfer, respectively. Even after literally hundreds of years of systematical study by some of the brightest minds of their time, the mathematical knowledge about these models and their isentropic simplifications is still rather limited、especially in the "natural" 3 dimensional setting. The gap between math, physics, modelling and numerics is opening every day as in mathematics one has to balance between the complexity of the model (its accuracy in application) and the abilities of state-of-art tools and ideas of mathematical analysis. In my research I strive to create mathematical tools that could narrow the gap a little.

教育活動概要

I teach courses KIKAN courses for Faculty of Arts and Science in English (including those for IUPE program) and basic and advanced courses for School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation. As a result of curriculum changes in SISI I'm part of a working group that prepares new classes and also work on development of issue based and COIL courses at SISI. I am a tutor for five second year students of the Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation. I am giving a 4th year seminar to a student in the school of mathematics. I am also implementing modern learning methods like student centered classroom, combining them with on-line materials and participating in creation of new lecturing approaches.
