The purpose of this study was to create a scale to measure non-cognitive skills that can be developed through sport. To begin, a draft of a non-cognitive ability measurement scale was developed based on previous research. A preliminary survey of 346 elementary school students (318 males and 28 females, mean age 8.90 ± 1.76 years) was conducted, and a preliminary scale was created using exploratory factor analysis. A subsequent main survey was conducted with 1171 elementary school students (1025 males and 146 females, mean age 8.77 ± 1.73). In the present study, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability testing using cronbach's alpha, and structural validity of the entire scale were examined using structural analysis of covariance. Furthermore, theoretical interpretations were also taken into account, and finally, a non-cognitive ability measurement scale that can be developed through sports for elementary school students was created, consisting of 50 items with 5 factors: "self-management," "problem-solving," "cooperativeness," "leadership," and "greetings/polite".

Group-level collective efficacy can be represented by the degree of variability or consensus around the central belief of group members (Bandura, 1997, 2000). Previous studies have primarily utilized the group mean as the representation of group-level collective efficacy to examine its relationship with group effectiveness, while the predictive power of within-group variability of collective efficacy has been largely ignored (Zaccaro et al., 1995). The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive power of collective efficacy dispersion on group cohesion, which is a criterion used to assess group effectiveness. Seven-hundred twenty-four athletes from various sport teams (<i>n</i>=47) participated in the study. The Collective Efficacy Questionnaire for Sports (Short et al., 2005) was used to assess the group mean and dispersion of collective efficacy. In addition, we used the Group Environment Questionnaire (Carron et al., 1985; Widmeyer et al., 1985) to assess the four dimensions of group cohesion. The results indicated that collective efficacy dispersion did not predict group cohesion beyond the predictive power of the group mean. These findings have significant implications for research on collective efficacy dispersion.<br>

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the collective efficacy of sport teams and to investigate whether the relationships among collective efficacy, the behavior of sportspersons during a game, and team performance differs depending on the type of sporting event. Hence, we developed and examined a scale of efficacy to measure the above relationships in the first part of the study and applied this instrument in the second part of the study. The results of the first part of the study indicated that our scale consisted of 10 items with one common factor and had internal consistency, stability, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. In the second part of the study, we conducted a simultaneous analysis of several groups in order to investigate the above relationships. The results showed that the relationships among collective efficacy, the behavior of sportspersons during a game, and team performance differed depending on the type of sporting event. From these results, we inferred that the impact of different sporting events should be considered while examining the effects of collective efficacy on team performance.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sports mental training (SMT) in junior badminton athletes, and to consider effective means of implementing SMT with junior athletes. Subjects included two females (junior high school students) and two males (elementary school students). SMT was carried out 23-25 times for one year, and comprised relaxation, goal setting, logbook tasks, and analysis of peak performance. The effect of SMT was measured using the Diagnostic Inventory of Psychological-Competitive Ability for Athletes (DIPCA.3) as well as comments from the trainers and subjects. There were initially some problems with subjects' communication skills. Therefore, they were also trained in communication skills using a special method. The effect of SMT was as follows: 1) Total DIPCA.3 scores improved in all subjects. 2) Subjects reported that nervousness during matches was reduced. 3) Subjects got the best results in tournament. 4) The time subjects spent expressing their emotions, ideas, and impressions was shorter. In summary, SMT was quick and effective, and special training in communication skills could further improve the effects of SMT.

The purpose of this study was to examine the longitudinal effects of mental training for junior athletes. Two male athletes in the six grade participated in twelve months of mental training. The mental training program was created from information obtained during interviews and the Diagnostic Inventory of Psychological-Competitive Ability for Athletes (DIPCA.3). The mental training program consists of goal setting, performance routines, relaxation, and logbook tasks. The main results are as follows: 1) Junior athletes can develop psychological problems. 2) Subjects increased their performance routine with pair and relaxation during competition. 3) Subjects' DIPCA.3 scores increased after mental training. 4) Both subjects competed in a national tournament for elementary school athletes. These results suggest that mental training may be effective for elementary school junior athletes.

The purpose of this study was to review several studies associated with the psychological concept of collective efficacy and the resources and utility of collective efficacy in the field of sports. This review has shown that 4 resources: (a) past performance accomplishments, (b) vicarious experiences, (c) verbal persuasion and (d) physiological states are resources of collective efficacy as well as self efficacy. In addition, it was suggested that group cohesion, coaching efficacy, attributes and behavior of team leaders, home advantage, group size and team process are thought to be influencing factors of collective efficacy. Especially group cohesion was important factor of collective efficacy, and these are influencing group performance while being related to each other. As a result, many previous studies describe collective efficacy as a positive prediction variable of the team performance. Therefore collective efficacy is highly useful psychological variable for performance in team sports. Approaches to acquire collective efficacy differ between newly formed teams and established teams, but as a common method to acquire collective efficacy, video is used by newly formed teams as well as established teams. Finally this review found that among other techniques, motivation videos for team sports are an effective tool to acquire collective efficacy.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey on the use of the self-modeling theory as a base for training and therapeutic applications, and to discuss the future prospects of its application to a competitive sport. Evidently, two lines of thought have driven the development of these applications: (a) an extension of peer modeling and (b) a description of personal success. Previous studies reported that intervention based on the self-modeling theory was implemented for academic and vocational issues, communication, social adaptation, and physical skills (rehabilitation, sports). The psychological effects of these interventions were recognized through improvement in self-efficacy and motivation. In addition, the acquisition of adaptive behaviors and performance improvement indicated the behavioral or performance effects of these interventions. These research evidences will help in the application of practical intervention by using the motivation video. Finally, we showed the future prospects of the practical intervention by using the motivation video based on the self-modeling theory.

In team sports, some constructs of the team process are important factors for team performance; therefore, exploring the group process of a team is crucial for improving team performance. The purpose of this article is to construct a team performance prediction model for sport teams, employing team-level variables. For this purpose, we reviewed the previous studies on group process in a variety of groups (work groups, sport teams, military groups, etc.), and interviewed a number of players and coaches. Consequently, we chose three sociopsychological constructs: organizational citizenship behavior (OCB: Organ, 1983), the team mental model (TMM: Smith et al., 1983), and collective efficacy (CE: Bandura, 1985). Subsequently, these three sociopsychological constructs were used to structure a team performance prediction model for sport teams. This model involves two aspects-a behavioral and a mental. To conclude, we stated future perspectives and directions for our studies, relating to the model.
