Profile
Dr. Kanemaki received his Ph.D. from Chiba University, Japan, in 2001. He then joined the CRUK Manchester Research Institute as a postdoctoral fellow, where he used temperature-sensitive degron technology to investigate all essential budding yeast genes whose functions were previously unknown. In 2006, he joined Osaka University as an Assistant Professor and developed the auxin-inducible degron system for use in animal cells. He moved to the National Institute of Genetics in 2010 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2016. His group has applied degron technology across diverse areas of cell biology, with a particular focus on chromosome replication. In 2022, he became a Professor at the University of Tokyo while maintaining his laboratory at the National Institute of Genetics. In 2026, he moved to Fukuoka to become a Professor at the School of Medicine, Kyushu University.
