Outline Activities
My recent research is centered around various syntactic phenomena of negation especially in English and Japanese. In the framework of the generative grammar I focus on explicating the generality behind the diversity. I am also interested in the conceptual semantics and the functional approach to syntax. Ellipsis and anaphora are also my concern of research. More recently, I am also engaged in the syntactic structures of Japanese.

I teach the basic notions, ideas, and the ways of analyses of (English) linguistics to the undergraduates. I have advanced courses of generative syntax for the graduates.

I have taught English linguistics at a community college.

1993.03My research is concerned with the syntactic aspects of negative sentences in the framework of the generative grammar. Explicating the syntactic structures of negative sentences and various phenomena related with negation, I aim to contribute to finding principles of grammar and building a theory of grammar. I have focused on the licensing mechanism of negative porality items (NPIs) in English and Japanese. I attempt to extend the mechanism to other phenomena than NPIs including other languages..
