Outline Activities
Yasuyuki Hirai is associate professor at the faculty of design of the Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan since 2000. He has more than 20 years of experience as a designer and design consultant, working for KOKUYO, the largest office furniture manufacturer in Japan and IDEO in USA. His expertise is in the areas of social innovation design such as inclusive design and design thinking as well as office design, both for innovative approaches to realize human and knowledge centric solutions. He studies inclusive design in collaboration with the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, the Royal College of Art, UK.He also study and design interior design in diversified areas such as residential, business, cultural and commercial spaces. Amongst all of these areas, workplace is the main study area, including offices and educational spaces.The study covers the relationship between factors of interior spaces (behavioral and/or environmental factors) and interior elements, furniture and/or architectural components and the development of interior products, starting from research, idea generation, and evaluation.
