Outline Activities
The field of digital contents production, as a compound expression field using CG, image, WEB, digital archive, it requires everyone to familiar with various fields. In Contents Design Lab, we look for the possibility of new expression of digital media by the digital contents creation of every variety, the expressing technique and research on some of their problems. Moreover, we settled our research goal, which is catching the exact needs of today’s society and designing comprehensive digital contents to meet the demand.

  • Utilization of Digital Technology in Restoration of Cultural Properties

    2002.04~2006.03There is a gilded bronze sculpture known as the Kurose Bronze Seated Buddha Statue that has been designated an Important National Cultural Property in Kurose, Mizushima-cho, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its main body was distorted and its platform was left in fragmentary form by a fire. In the present research project a non-contact laser device is to be used to collect digital data and position that data properly and convert it into a 3D model for the purpose of analyzing the present condition of the sculpture. In addition, a 3D digital data cross-section image will be used to correct the distortion using the central axis as the standard and to reproduce the sculpture in its original form. There are a number of examples of such measuring and construction of models of cultural properties that have already been carried out. This thesis will introduce not only a record of the 3D digital data that will be saved, but also the stages in the process of digital restoration, from the methodology for restoring the sculpture to its former appearance previous to its distortion based upon such research materials as art history, to the method of collection digital data and the final creation of the CG image..
