Current and Past Project
  • The goals of this project are 1)identification of a natural spawning-inducing hormone of tropical edible sea cucumbers, 2)establishment of an artificial spawning-inducing technique, and 3)application in sea cucumber aquaculture and conservation of the natural resource.

A peptide hormone, Cubifrin, inducing gamete maturation and spawning of Japanese common sea cucumber was found from nerve tissues, and currently provided as a potent spawning-inducing reagent of Apostichopus japonicus form the TLO of Kyushu University. As a social action program of our laboratory, we have been operating workshop and guidance of the egg-laying techinique with use of Cubifrin..
