1. Fumihiko SHIWA, Nanami FUKUMOTO, Koji NITAMIZU, Research on the Actual Use of the Complex Public Library from the Perspectives of Visiting Purpose and Usage BehaviorConnection between users’ visiting purpose and space usage at St, Tg libraries, Japan Architectural Review, 10.1002/2475-8876.12348, 2023.03, This research clarifies the following issues to obtain useful knowledge for future public library planning by capturing the behavior of the complex public library in Japan based on the user's purpose of visit. First, the functional structure and management policy of the complex public library in recent years were examined. Second, the connection between users' purpose of visit and the space used at St and Tg libraries were clarified. Finally, the users' purpose of visit, patterns and development of “by-the-way use,” and expansion of space used under “stop by use” were evaluated to determine the usage structure of the stay-oriented library..

3. Fumihiko Shiwa, Hiroyuki Nakahara, Hiroyuki Mitsudo and Masahiro Motokane, Influence of Seismic Retrofitting on Facility Users’ Impressions of Educational Facilities
, The 9th International Symposium on Architectural Interchanges in Asia , 2012.10, In this research, we aim to determine the impressions of facility users concerning the design of seismic retrofit braces by carrying out impressional evaluation experiments at existing educational facilities of K University and N University.
In conclusion, we clarify the following points: (1) We have to consider the visibility of the outdoors and lighting for the indoors when we set the seismic retrofit braces on the rooms. (2) We have to properly size and shape the braces to ease the oppressiveness for users. (3) It is possible to improve some of these problems by adjusting the colors of the braces. When we compare three types of braces: prototype, general type, and proposal type, we find these additional points: (4) The sense of incongruity in the view from outdoors is reduced in the proposal type compared with the general type. (5) The sense of oppression from the indoor view is reduced in the proposal type compared with the general type, although the impression changes with the appearance of the windows. (6) The evaluation of the overall color, the size of the diagonal part, and the form of the joint part of the proposal type is especially higher than that for the prototype. (7) The evaluation of the size of the joint part and the form of the diagonal part of the proposal type is especially higher than for the general type.

2. Fumihiko Shiwa, Planning Challenges for Integrated and Cooperative Education Schools: An Educational Management and Space Design Perspective , Global Science and Technology Forum 2013, 2014.03, The traditional 6-3 system in Japanese compulsory education has been reviewed in recent years. Local municipalities throughout Japan are now promoting the construction of integrated and cooperative education schools for the purpose of continuity and the systemization of compulsory education.
This study analyzed the planning characteristics and spatial design of newly built facility-combined integrated and cooperative education schools from an educational management and space design perspective. As such, it clarified grade division, timetable scheduling, enhancing the suitability of high-rises in terms of space planning, the importance of the approach space, characteristics and challenges in designing various rooms to gain knowledge needed to plan future integrated and cooperative education schools, and finally, it examined an ideal working space for increasing the effectiveness of integrated and cooperative education..
