Expectation and Actuality of Social Inclusive Aspects in Theater Workshops : Case Study of Theater Workshops in A Class for Special Needs Children This paper reports and verifies the theater communication classes for special needs children. The analysis method adopted in this research is field work and interaction analysis. The point of value in this paper is: "What is going on concretely?" and "What is the meaning of what is going on?" In this thesis, we focus on three scenes of theater workshops. As a result, we have three findings: 1) Acceptance of individual recognition and amplification of self-esteem, 2) Establishment of relationship of "seen-seeing," and 3) Change of awareness of children by artist's intervention over time. We also have two findings from post-interviews: 1) Facilitators give children criteria for judging what is deemed suitable through acts of "praise" and 2) opportunities to experience the relationship with other people through non-verbal communication. Meanwhile, We plan to continue to refine this conclusion, based on more case analysis.. |

Radio as a Medium for Empathy Based Inter-Regional Community Development : An Action Research Approach This paper examines the role of local radio in relation to inter-regional community development. Collaborative action research was conducted as a project based on a partnership between academia and local radio in Fukuoka, Japan. Research was undertaken in the following steps? 1) co-production of a radio program that invited local creative talent, and a participatory exhibition themed on the connection of urban and rural regions, 2) post-project interviews, 3) analysis and modeling of the two projects and the relationships between various actors. It was found that, some urban listeners built empathy for rural regional issues aired on the program, and spurred them to action, leading to the development of communities. Empathy for local issues, as felt by the radio host, emerged as an important factor influencing listener involvement. Through this research, the potentiality of radio was demonstrated as an affective medium for interregional community development.. |
