Tomoyuki Miyamoto, Noriyuki Yokouchi, Masaki Hirota, and Takeo Maruyama, Report on OPIC2019 the 1st Optical Wireless and Fiber Power Transmission Conference (OWPT2019), レーザー学会誌  レーザー研究, 2019.08, Optical Wireless and Fiber Power Transmission Conference (OWPT) is an international conference on optical wireless power transmission, optical fiber power transmission, and related technologies. The 1st Optical Wireless and Fiber Power Transmission Conference (OWPT2019)†1 was held on April 23 (Tue.) - 25 (Thu.), 2019 at PACIFICO Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan as one of conferences of the OPTICS & PHOTONICS International Congress 2019 (OPIC2019)†2. OWPT2019 was intended to provide a central forum for the update and review of scientific and technical information on optical wireless power transmission and optical fiber power transmission covering a wide range of fields from fundamental research to systems and applications. This conference was sponsored by Optical Wireless Power Transmission Committee, The Laser Society of Japan in cooperation with several academic societies and associations.
Optical wireless power transmission and optical fiber power transmission, which are power transmission methods using light, are attractive compared with existing wireless power transmission using electromagnetic wave because method using light has various advantages such as long-distance transmission, small size, no-electromagnetic interference, etc. The methods may lead to improvement of convenience of electrical equipment, application to a system in where power supply becomes a problem, and creation of a new system. Though this system has high feasibility based on light source and solar cell, there are only limited research and development application cases until now. Therefore, there has been no appropriate place to discuss the related devices, systems, and applications, and the first international conference was decided to be held in order to support the future extension of this field and to activate it. In this conference, there is the significance of strengthening the intensive discussion of various themes as well as the networking of the optical power supply related researchers.
