本研究では、検知技術の革新のための逆問題理論を構築し、理論的再構成法に裏打ちされた数値解析手法を開発することで、非破壊検査や医療画像や環境問題のような現実の問題へと応用する。具体的には、inverse source problemやinverse obstacle problemに関する以下の３つの研究課題に取り組む。
研究課題A：弾性構造物の欠陥の検出
研究課題B：汚染物質の発生源（移動する場合も含む）の位置の検出
研究課題C：人体内部の電気・機械特性異常部位の検出
課題解決のために、研究代表者を中心とする日本側研究者がフランスとオーストリアの３つの海外研究機関に滞在し、共同研究を行う。 -
非コンパクト多様体上の退化双曲型偏微分方程式に対する逆問題解析

境界でローレンツ計量が発散する多様体上の波動方程式は退化双曲型偏微分方程式に分類され，多様体内部の情報を境界での観測データから抽出することは物理学においても重要な課題である．そこで未知の波源を決定する逆問題及び方程式中の未知係数を決定する逆問題に対し，一意性及び安定性評価を確立する．

時間依存する係数をもつ双曲型偏微分方程式について，波源項や方程式の係数を決定する逆問題，及び解の局所的な一意性を保証する一意接続性定理に関して完全な解決が待たれている．そこで本研究では曲がった時空間を記述するローレンツ多様体上での波動方程式に対し微分幾何学を取り入れた解析手法を用いることで，これらの課題に対し統一的なアプローチを用い一意性及び安定性を証明する．
