【研究活動】主にマクロ経済学の理論を用いて以下の３つのテーマについて研究を行っている。 ①　自動化と経済成長に関するマクロ動学的研究 ②　知的財産保護政策と経済成長に関する研究 ③　児童労働の発生メカニズムとその抑止政策に関するマクロ動学 【教育活動】 学部生に対してミクロ経済学的な基礎や時間を通じた経済変数の変化（動学）を重視したマクロ経済学を，実例を踏まえて教育している（『応用マクロ経済学』，『経済工学演習』など）。また学府生に対しては，学生の研究活動の基礎として新古典派的成長モデルや標準的な内生的成長モデルに関して教育を行っている（『マクロ経済分析特研I,II』『Economic Theory III』など）。

    Economists and policymakers in many developed countries regard digitalization and robotic automation as drivers of increased productivity and economic growth. However, these innovations increase the wage gap (skill premium) between unskilled and information technology (IT)-skilled workers. This study examines the effects of technological innovations in automation and development of IT-skilled human resources on economic growth and skill premiums. It combines a task-based approach with a simple two-sector growth model to analyze the impact of automation on economic development and skill premiums. The study's dynamic model reproduces the changes in the skill premium and labor share in the United States since the 1970s. In addition, technological innovation in automation promotes task automation not only in the short run but also in the long run, increasing total output and skill premiums. Regarding IT education for human resource, an optimal level of IT education exists that maximizes production and minimizes the skill premium in the steady state.

    In recent years, although rapid progress in digital technology has made it easier to automate production processes, it has raised concerns that machines may deprive workers of employment. However, the effects of automation-oriented policies on economic growth have not been thoroughly studied. This study examines the effect of task automation on economic growth and its policy implications by incorporating a task-based approach into a neoclassical growth model. I find that the aggregate production function becomes asymptotically linear if firms’ cost-minimization behavior determines the number of automated tasks. Consequently, a higher subsidy rate for automation increases the returns on machines (capital) and generates perpetual economic growth. For factor prices, the rental prices of capital and wages converge to constant values along the equilibrium path. In addition, while an increase in the subsidy rate for automation raises the long-term rental price of capital, it does not affect the long-term wage rates.

    This paper incorporates a task-based approach into the Solow growth model to analyze the effects of automation on economic growth. We find that if task producers smoothly adopt automation technology along the capital accumulation path, sustained growth is possible even without technological progress. This result is brought about by the fact that task automation makes the aggregate production function linear. In addition, we demonstrate that both the rental price of capital and the wage are constant on the growth path. In sum, while the interaction between task automation and capital accumulation can be a pathway for sustained growth in output, it leads to the cease of wage growth in the long run.

    This paper examines the effect of campaign contributions on patent policy, welfare, and innovation using a fully-endogenous quality-ladder model. Assuming two types of households, where one type holds patents and the other does not, we analyze political conflicts between the two groups. Our analysis shows campaign contributions increase the rate of innovation to an excessive level from the viewpoint of social welfare when the innovation-maximizing patent policy is sufficiently strong. This result is important because it implies that the rate of innovation distorted by campaign contributions can be too high from the viewpoint of social welfare.

    In many developed countries, economists and policy-makers regarded digitalization and robotic automation as drivers for increasing productivity and achieving economic growth. On the other hand, human resources with IT skills is essential for these technologies. How do the improvement of automation technology and the development of IT human resources affect the wage gap between unskilled and IT skilled workers? This paper combines a task-based approach with a simple two-sector growth model to analyze the impact of automation on wage inequality and economic growth. Our analysis shows that while an increase in the supply of IT-skilled labor reduces the wage gap between these two types of workers, the evolution of automation technology increases the wage gap.

  • AI時代における自動化と経済成長に関するマクロ動学的研究

    人工知能（AI）やロボット等のデジタル技術革新による生産工程の自動化・機械化は，少子高齢化が進む我が国において経済成長を実現する切り札として期待される。しかし自動化技術の進展がどのように経済成長と関係するのか，そのマクロ的なメカニズムは明らかではない。本研究では労働経済学の分野で着目されている「タスク・モデル」の手法を用いて，①自動化とIT人材のスキル獲得・供給メカニズムを内生化した動学モデルを構築する。また②研究開発セクターにおける自動化技術（AI）の利用をモデル化する。最終的には①と②の分析を統合した経済成長モデルを開発し，「IT人材の育成・供給」と「研究開発におけるAI利用」という２つの側面で，自動化の進展が経済成長に与える影響を明らかにする。

    少子高齢化が進む我が国において，デジタル技術革新による生産工程の自動化・機械化は経済成長を実現する切り札として期待される一方で，自動化・機械化の進展が経済成長や所得分配にどのような影響をもたらすのかは明らかではない。本研究では労働経済学の分野で着目されている「タスク分析」の手法を導入したマクロ経済モデルを構築し，①機械化の経済的メカニズムを明らかにし，機械化の進展が経済成長率や所得分配にどのような影響を与えるのかを示す。

教育活動概要

  • 主にマクロ経済学の教育を担当している。学部科目としては「応用マクロ経済学」，「経済工学演習」を担当した。また基幹教育科目として文系ディシプリン科目「経済学入門」を担当した。一方で大学院については「経済理論Ⅲ」，「マクロ経済分析特研Ⅰ，Ⅱ」を担当した。また大学院国際コース向けの科目としては"Economic Theory III", "Topics in Economics（Innovation and Growth)"，"Economic Growth and Development"を開講した。なお大学院科目についてはすべて英語にて授業を行った。

社会貢献・国際連携活動概要

  • 経済学・経済教育の普及を目的として，高等学校への出張講義を積極的に行っている。2020年7月には，人社系協働研究・教育コモンズのシンポジウム第5弾企画「グローバリゼーションの行方とローカリティーの再生 ―ポスト・コロナ社会を語る―」にパネラーとして参加し，Covid-19による経済的影響について，マクロ経済学の視点から紹介した。また近年では，福岡県立糸島高校や熊本県玉名高校において「コロナ禍に経済学はどう立ち向かうのか？」 というテーマで，高校生向け講義を行った。
