My research interests include development and improvement of seismic exploration methods to accurately characterize and monitor geothermal reservoirs, reservoirs for CO2 geological storages, and shallow subsurface structures for predicting earthquake ground shaking.

Educational Activities

  • I am in charge of foundational lectures and experimental courses in Geophysical Exploration, with a focus on helping students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In particular, I incorporate programming-based activities into the lecture, providing students with opportunities to apply learned theories to actual problems through hands-on practice.

    For senior undergraduate students as well as those in the master’s and doctoral programs, I provide individualized research supervision tailored to each student’s research theme. Daily discussions are emphasized to encourage students to identify and define their own research problems, and to think critically and independently throughout the research process. My aim is to support their development into independent researchers by fostering their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Outline of Social Contribution and International Cooperation activities

  • In the SATREPS project titled “Comprehensive Solutions for Optimal Development of Geothermal Systems in the East African Rift Valley”, I am responsible for conducting geophysical surveys of geothermal resources in Kenya. I also provide hands-on training to Kenyan researchers on the operation and application of geophysical equipment used on-site, thereby contributing to local capacity building and technology transfer. In addition, I deliver lectures on seismic exploration at geothermal workshops held in Kenya.

    As part of the JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program titled “Geothermal Resource Engineers”, I am also in charge of project-based studies on seismic exploration, supporting the development of technical expertise among engineers from developing countries.
