合金は、金属組成により多様な構造を示すことが知られている。高効率および高選択性の合金触媒を得る為には、その反応に適した構造および組成をもつ合金粒子を得ることが重要である。我々は、相分離型、不規則固溶体型および規則型などの合金構造を制御し、効率的に物質やエネルギーの変換を行うための新規触媒の創製を行っている。具体的には、カーボンニュートラル実現に向けて、電気化学的CO2変換やアンモニア合成などの水素化反応に注目している。

    AbstractCarbon dioxide (CO2) electroreduction reaction (CO2RR) offers a promising strategy for the conversion of CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels. CO2RR in acidic electrolytes would have various advantages due to the suppression of carbonate formation. However, its reaction rate is severely limited by the slow CO2 diffusion due to the absence of hydroxide that facilitates the CO2 diffusion in an acidic environment. Here, we design an optimal architecture of a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) employing a copper-based ultrathin superhydrophobic macroporous layer, in which the CO2 diffusion is highly enhanced. This GDE retains its applicability even under mechanical deformation conditions. The CO2RR in acidic electrolytes exhibits a Faradaic efficiency of 87% with a partial current density $$( {j}_{ { { { m{C } } } }_{2+ } })$$ of −1.6 A cm−2 for multicarbon products (C2+), and $$ {j}_{ { { { { { m{C } } } } } }_{2+ } }$$ of −0.34 A cm−2 when applying dilute 25% CO2. In a highly acidic environment, C2+ formation occurs via a second order reaction which is controlled by both the catalyst and its hydroxide.

    The intensive study of electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) has resulted in numerous highly selective catalysts, however, most of these still exhibit uncontrollable selectivity. Here, it is reported for the first time the controllable CH4/C2H4 selectivity by modulating the electronic states of Cu incorporated in metal-organic frameworks with different functional ligands, achieving a Faradaic efficiency of 58% for CH4 on Cu-incorporated UiO-66-H (Ce) composite catalysts, Cu/UiO-66-H (Ce) and that of 44% for C2H4 on Cu/UiO-66-F (Ce). In situ measurements of Raman and X-ray absorption spectra revealed that the electron-withdrawing ability of the ligand side group controls the product selectivity on MOFs through the modulation of the electronic states of Cu. This work opens new prospects for the development of MOFs as a platform for the tailored tuning of selectivity in CO2RR.

    The electrochemical reduction of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) using water as a hydrogen source is a promising strategy for the efficient and environmentally friendly production of the active enzymatic cofactor 1,4-NADH, which is a key for the further application of enzymatic systems in various industrial fields. However, the efficient regeneration of 1,4-NADH (NADH-reg) remains a major challenge. The rate-limiting step in the electrochemical conversion of the oxidized NAD is the second electron transfer to an NAD radical, which is formed by the reduction of NAD+, at a large overpotential, whereas the other side reactions proceed readily. To surmount this obstacle and promote NADH-reg, we used Ni nanoparticle-loaded TiO2 on a Ti electrode (Ni-TOT) containing a sufficient number of defects as active sites, which are formed at 300 °C in the H2 atmosphere. Ni-TOT facilitated the formation of enzymatically active 1,4-NADH with a superior yield and significantly reduced overpotential compared to those on untreated TOT. We found that hydrogen spillover promotes the formation of active sites on Ni-TOT. This study highlights the potential of engineered defect-enriched electrodes as a means to advance NADH-reg.

    The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) combined with direct air capture (DAC) based CO2 is a promising method for terrestrial carbon cycling. In this study, we have designed an all-Ag cathode and constructed a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) cell to utilize CO2 capture solution, which can be produced by flowing air containing CO2 mixed gas into an alkaline solution. A MEA consisting of a Ag nanoparticle catalyst sprayed on a Nafion membrane and a Ag electrode were used to construct a MEA cell (Ag MEA-cell). The Ag MEA-cell exhibited selective CO production without severe side reactions, such as the hydrogen evolution reaction, even when an aqueous electrolyte was used. The operation of the Ag MEA-cell using CO2 capture solution, which was prepared by bubbling 60% air containing CO2 mixed gas (40% CO2 and 60% air, air-CO2) into 1 M KOH, achieved CO production with 86% faradaic efficiency (FECO). Furthermore, the Ag MEA-cell significantly suppressed O2 reduction and achieved FECO of 74% even when air-CO2 was used as a CO2 source.

    One of the main challenges in designing catalysts for ammonia synthesis is to create active sites on the surface of the catalyst that prefers to reduce the strong N2 molecule despite its highly stable structure. Binary alloys have been demonstrated as potential ammonia synthesis catalysts in the literature. However, for binary alloys to be commercially viable, one needs to improve their catalytic activity for N2 reduction by strategically manipulating the several unique active sites present on their surface. Herein, by using computational tools, we created five different compositions of CuxNi1-x (0.5 ≤ x ≤ 0.9) alloys via special quasi-random structure (SQS) and genetic algorithm (GA). The alloy with about 50% of Cu and 50% of Ni is predicted to have the highest catalytic activity based on the shift of the d-band center toward the Fermi level. We then synthesized MgO-supported Cu0.5Ni0.5 nanoparticles and compared their activity for ammonia synthesis with that of Ni/MgO and Cu/MgO. It was found that the MgO-supported Cu0.5Ni0.5 alloy possesses 21 times higher activity than Cu/MgO and 3 times higher than Ni/MgO for ammonia synthesis, confirming the computational results. To demonstrate the impact of alloying on the catalytic activity, we further investigated all the possible unique sites on the surface of the Cu0.5Ni0.5 alloy for nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) via density functional theory (DFT). The investigation of the 96 unique active sites on the Cu0.5Ni0.5 surface demonstrated that the position and concentration of Ni atoms near each investigated adsorption site have a linear correlation with the adsorption energy of the N2. Along with the structural and electronic properties of the active sites modified by Ni, orientation of the N2 molecule also plays an important role in determining the activity of the CuNi catalyst. These findings not only explained the notable increase in the activity of CuNi catalysts compared to the pure metals for NH3 synthesis but also offered critical insights required to tailor the specific surface environment of CuNi catalysts for NRR. This knowledge can serve as a foundation for further developments in designing binary alloy catalysts for sustainable ammonia synthesis.

    Efficient storage and transport of electric energy is essential to promote the use of renewable energy-based electricity. An energy cycle based on highly selective redox reactions between lactic acid (Lac) and pyruvic acid (Pyr), both of which are liquid under ambient conditions and can be obtained from biomass resources, realizing a completely low emission system. As an energy storage device, an electrosynthesis cell (LAEC) to produce Lac from Pyr was built using a membrane electrode assembly consisting of a TiO2 cathode catalyst for the electroreduction of Pyr and an IrOx anode catalyst for water oxidation. LAEC achieved highly efficient Lac production from 10M Pyr aqueous solution with Faradaic efficiency (FE) of approximately 100% in the applied voltage range of 1.4-2.4 V, resulting in an energy conversion efficiency of 50% and a current density of -0.4A/sq cm at 2.0 V. Direct Lac fuel cell was also constructed and its FE values for the Pyr production reached approximately 100%, enabling direct electronic energy storage in bio-derivative liquid carriers and efficient energy circulation with minimal CO2 emissions.

    Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy combined with modulation excitation spectroscopy realized observation of NH3 production process on a Ru nanoparticle supported on MgO under operation conditions in the presence of both H2 and N2 (∼400 °C, 0.1 MPa). Our study clearly indicated that N2 dissociation is developed via transition from vertically adsorbed states of N2 (N2-Ver) on an on-top Ru site to horizontally adsorbed states via N2-Ver on a bridge site, which is a critical step for the progress of AS reactions on Ru catalysts at low temperatures and persists in the presence of both N2 and H2.

    Electrochemical CO2 reduction (eCO2R) by direct introduction of 60% air-containing CO2 mixed gas was demonstrated using a porous Cu network cathode formed on a hydrophobic gas diffusion layer (Cu/P-GDL). Cu/P-GDL exhibited eCO2R using the mixed gas with a remarkable faradaic efficiency of 85% for the production of C2+ chemicals, whereas a Cu cathode constructed on a conventional carbon gas diffusion layer (Cu/C-GDL) produced neither eCO2R products nor H2. Furthermore, the electrolyzer with Cu/P-GDL and optimized anode configuration achieved a partial current density of 132 mA cm−2 for C2+ chemicals even in the presence of 12% O2. Demonstration of eCO2R with impure CO2 gas would greatly expand its future applications.

    Hydroxide-derived copper (OH/Cu) electrodes exhibit excellent performance for the electrocatalytic CO2reduction reaction (CO2RR). However, the role of hydroxide (OH) in CO2RR remains controversial; therefore, the origin of the selectivity enhancement emerging on OH/Cu has not been fully understood. In the present work, we quantitatively evaluated surface OH by electroadsorption and established a direct correlation between the OH amount and selectivity for the production of CH4and C2+on OH/Cu with the help of computational investigations concerning work functions of the surface. Based on these findings, we demonstrated variable selectivity using OH/Cu electrodes having a controlled OH amount; three OH/Cu electrodes realized their distinct selectivity such as Faradic efficiency (FE) for the production of CH4(CH4FE) of 78%, C2+FE of 71%, and the ratio of C2+-To-CH4>355. The proposed simple strategy for selectivity control would contribute to further quantity synthesis of value-Added chemicals using CO2RR.

    There is an increasing demand to replace conventional industrial systems that emit massive amounts of CO2 with lower-carbon emitting systems, and this has spurred research on the application of renewable energy for chemical conversions. Hydrogen and other simple chemical products have been efficiently manufactured using renewable light energy or secondary energy sources, such as electricity. More importantly, the direct use of water as a ubiquitous and clean hydrogen (or electron) and oxygen source in organic synthesis has recently been realized. Semiconductor photo- and electrocatalysts, such as metal oxides, play significant roles in energy transformations and in the activation of reactant chemicals. This paper reviews recent developments in organic synthesis using water and renewable light or electric energy to achieve sustainable chemical production. TiO2 is especially featured as a reaction platform where both reactants and water are efficiently activated through coordination with the TiO2 surface. We also discuss the role of water in the reaction on the TiO2 surface from the perspectives of synthetic chemistry, physical surface chemistry, and nanomaterial chemistry.

    Abstract: Hydrogen is chemically flexible revealing three aspects; protium (H), proton (H+), and hydride (H-), which are active toward hydrogenation reactions. While the reactivity of protium is characterized by the potential energy at a catalyst surface, electron transfer is of importance as an additional degree of freedom in the reactions with proton and hydride. A promising strategy is to make full use of these active hydrogen species for hydrogenation of stable molecules and achieve chemical transformation of these molecules, which we call “Hydrogenomics”. By reviewing recent studies on the hydrogenation of hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide, dinitrogen, and so on using these active hydrogen species on model metal surfaces, nanoscale electrocatalysts, and multimetallic polyhydride clusters, we discuss the fundamental concepts behind the reactions and possible control of the efficient and selective hydrogenation reactions.     Electrochemical reduction of CO2 (ECO2R) is gaining attention as a promising approach to store excess or intermittent electricity generated from renewable energies in the form of valuable chemicals such as CO, HCOOH, CH4, and so on. Selective ECO2R to CH4 is a challenging target because the rate-determining step of CH4 formation, namely CO* protonation, competes with hydrogen evolution reaction and the C–C coupling toward the production of longer-chain chemicals. Herein, a Cu-TiO2 composite catalyst consisting of CuOx clusters or Cu nanoparticles (CuNPs), which are isolated on the TiO2 grain surface, was synthesized using a one-pot solvothermal method and subsequent thermal treatment. The Cu-TiO2 catalyst exhibited high selectivity for CH4, and the ratio of FE for CH4 to total FE for all products in ECO2R reached 70&#37;.

    AbstractThe oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a critical element for all sorts of reactions that use water as a hydrogen source, such as hydrogen evolution and electrochemical CO2 reduction, and novel design principles that provide highly active sites on OER electrocatalysts push the limits of their practical applications. Herein, Au‐cluster loading on unilamellar exfoliated layered double hydroxide (ULDH) electrocatalysts for the OER is demonstrated to fabricate a heterointerface between Au clusters and ULDHs as an active site, which is accompanied by the oxidation state modulation of the active site and interfacial direct OO coupling (“interfacial DOOC”). The Au‐cluster‐loaded ULDHs exhibit excellent activities for the OER with an overpotential of 189 mV at 10 mA cm−2. X‐ray absorption fine structure measurements reveal that charge transfer from the Au clusters to ULDHs modifies the oxidation states of trivalent metal ions, which can be active sites on the ULDHs. The present study, supported by highly sensitive spectroscopy combining reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy and modulation‐excitation spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, indicates that active sites at the interface between the Au clusters and ULDHs promote a novel OER mechanism through interfacial DOOC, thereby achieving outstanding catalytic performance.

    Although hydrogen plays a crucial role in ammonia synthesis, very little is known about its poisoning of Ru catalysts. In this study, density functional theory calculations of H2 and N2 dissociations, and H atom binding on Ru153 were performed to provide a fundamental understanding of hydrogen poisoning. Because of the kinetic dominance of the H2 dissociation over N2 (vertically or horizontally adsorbed) splitting, the dissociated H atoms block the active sites required for horizontal (less energetically demanding dissociation) N2 adsorption to occur either from the gas phase or after its geometrical transformation from being adsorbed vertically. Additionally, the dissociated H atoms withdraw electrons from the surface, which reduces the ability of the neighboring Ru atoms to donate electrons for N2 activation, hindering its dissociation and suppressing ammonia synthesis.

    Abstract

    An infinite number of crystal structures in a multicomponent alloy with a specific atomic ratio can be devised, although only thermodynamically-stable phases can be formed. Here, we experimentally show the first example of a layer-structured pseudo-binary alloy, theoretically called Z3-FePd3. This Z3 structure is achieved by adding a small amount of In, which is immiscible with Fe but miscible with Pd and consists of an alternate L10 (CuAu-type)-PdFePd trilayer and Pd–In ordered alloy monolayer along the c axis. First-principles calculations strongly support that the specific inter-element miscibility of In atoms stabilizes the thermodynamically-unstable Z3-FePd3 phase without significantly changing the original density of states of the Z3-FePd3 phase. Our results demonstrate that the specific inter-element miscibility can switch stable structures and manipulate the material nature with a slight composition change.

    Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) with high-purity H2 and O2 products and swift response to electricity fluctuation is of great interest for renewable energy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Ruthenium oxide shows promise as an alternative to iridium oxide catalysts in PEMWE but suffers from severe anodic corrosion. Herein, a pluralistic electronic structure modulation approach is presented to address the instability issue of Ru, by in situ growing MnxRu1−xO2 solid solution on MnO2, coated carbon fibers (MnxRu1−xO2/MnO2/CFs). Due to higher ion electronegativity, Mn dopants in the MnxRu1−xO2 solid solution accept electrons, activating the Ru site. Simultaneously, the MnO2 support donates electrons to prevent Ru site overoxidation and dissolution due to its lower work function than the MnxRu1−xO2 solid solution. As a result, the MnxRu1−xO2/MnO2/CFs catalyst exhibits a low overpotential of 161 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and a remarkable stability exceeding 600 h. Profiting by its improved oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetic activity, the MnxRu1−xO2/MnO2/CF-based PEMWE shows a low cell voltage of 1.9 V at 2 A cm−2, and stably operate at current density of 500 mA cm−2 for 24 h. This work shows the potential of the pluralistic electronic structure modulation to boost activity and stability of Ru-based acidic OER electrocatalysts.

    <p>持続可能なものづくりを実現するには,高効率触媒の開拓が必要となる.本稿では,水を水素源とする電気化学的物質変換反応を活性化するために求められる触媒の組成,配列,構造を議論するとともに,筆者らが開発した無機ナノ触媒の機能を紹介する.初めに,炭素循環の要となるCO<sub>2</sub>還元反応(CO<sub>2</sub>RR)を促進する無機触媒の制御要因について議論する.また,高効率蓄電の新しい方法となる有機酸あるいはケトンからのアルコール化合物を合成するために作製されたTiO<sub>2</sub>をベースとする電極材料を紹介する.さらに,有機酸とケトンの電気化学的還元の応用例として熱電子変換とアミノ酸合成についての研究例を紹介する.</p>

    <p>This chapter discusses compositions, arrangements, and structures of inorganic nanocatalysts that electrochemically promotes material conversion using water as a hydrogen source and introduces the functions of the nanocatalysts. First, the author summarizes the controlling factors of inorganic nanocatalysts applicable to CO<sub>2</sub> reduction reactions, which are regarded as a critical technology for achieving carbon cycling. TiO<sub>2</sub>-based catalysts electrochemically produce alcoholic compounds from organic acids and ketones, a new method for highly efficient power storage. Furthermore, thermoelectric conversion and amino acid synthesis on the TiO<sub>2</sub> electrocatalyst are introduced as an advanced application of electrochemical reduction of organic acids and ketones.</p>

    We report a synergetic dual-metal single-atom (Pd and Ni) promoting approach that modulates the catalytic activity and selectivity of α-MnO2 toward HMF oxidation. Pd and Ni have different spatial doping profiles and catalytic functions. Pd single atoms are embedded in the crystalline lattice of α-MnO2, which activates lattice oxygen and creates abundant oxygen vacancies. Ni single atoms that are mainly anchored on the surface of α-MnO2 improve the ability to dissociate molecular oxygen for healing oxygen vacancies. Pd and Ni work synergistically to accelerate the consumption and recovery of active lattice oxygen during HMF oxidation, which results in 3 fold enhancement of productivity and near-unity DFF selectivity. Ex situ and in situ characterization together with theoretical calculations confirm the pronounced effects of Pd and Ni on oxygen species. Compared to conventional single atom catalysts requiring a metal loading of 1-10 wt%, a single atom promoter requiring a tiny metal loading <0.5 wt% allows one to significantly improve the activity of α-MnO2

    Ionic liquid (IL)/solid interfaces are relevant to a broad range of physicochemical phenomena and technological processes such as catalysis, corrosion, electrochemistry, and lubrication. Hence, understanding the effect of substrate surface nature on the interfacial properties has a significant impact on improving technological processes in which interfacial properties are dominant. In this work, we investigated interfacial structures between 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMI-PF6) IL and KBr crystal surfaces by frequency modulation atomic force microscopy utilizing a quartz tuning fork sensor. KBr(100) and (111) surfaces were used as the substrates, where the (100) surface is electrically neutral, and the (111) surface is highly charged. We investigated the influence of surface charge on their surface structures and interfacial solvation structures by atomic-scale topographic imaging and frequency shift versus distance curve measurement. The behavior of IL at these two interfaces was found to be significantly different due to these different surface properties.

    Current greenhouse gas emissions suggest that keeping global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees, as espoused in the Paris Agreements will be challenging, and to do so, the achievement of carbon neutrality is of utmost importance. It is also clear that no single solution can meet the carbon neutral challenge, so it is essential for scientific research to cover a broad range of technologies and initiatives which will enable the realization of a carbon free energy system. This study details the broad, yet targeted research themes being pioneered within the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER). These approaches include hydrogen materials, bio-mimetic catalysts, electrochemistry, thermal energy and absorption, carbon capture, storage and management and refrigerants. Here we outline the state of the art for this suite of technologies and detail how their deployment, alongside prudent energy policy implementation can engender a carbon neutral Japan by 2050. Recognizing that just as no single technological solution will engender carbon neutrality, no single nation can expect to achieve this goal alone. This study represents a recognition of conducive international policy agendas and is representative of interdisciplinary, international collaboration.

    Sintering-induced aggregation of active metals is a major cause of catalyst deactivation. Catalysts that can operate above 800°C are rare. Here, we report an unusual noble metal catalyst with sintering-induced activation at temperatures up to 1,000°C. The catalyst consists of atomically dispersed palladium embedded in a reducible SnO support designated for lean methane combustion. High temperature reaction simultaneously causes favorable changes of palladium ensemble state combining synergistically with lattice oxygen activation. Such changes lead to at least one order of magnitude improvement of the intrinsic reactivity, which compensates the surface area loss. Extensive characterizations such as atom probe tomography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and isotope tracking together with theoretical calculations illustrate the structure and surface chemistry changes and their impacts on the reaction mechanism. The catalyst also shows notable long-term stability and facile regeneration after poisoning. Our work may provide new insights into designing active and thermally stable catalysts. 2

    Alcohol is considered as a potential CO -free energy carrier to replace hydrogen because of its high energy density, appropriate chemical stability and low-cost production. In this study, we describe the development of a simple in situ growth method to prepare a binder free IrO -Ti anode with a very low IrO loading amount (< 0.25 mg cm ), and the obtained catalyst shows a high oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity and durability in acidic media. The performance of a polymer electrolyte alcohol electrosynthesis cell (PEAEC) using this anode catalyst shows a better performance than that of PEAEC using a typical commercial IrO -Ti paper anode with the loading of IrO = 3 mg cm . Furthermore, the key factors that affect the performance of the PEAEC are determined by comparing the performances of the PEAEC with different anode catalysts. 2 x x 2 2 −2 −2

    The accumulation of organic pollutants in surface water, groundwater, and even drinking water has raised as a serious issue in recent decades. Semiconductor-based photocatalysis has emerged as a green and sustainable approach to find remediate solutions for environmental and energy issues. However, the fast recombination rate of photogenerated charge carriers reduces the photocatalytic efficiency of photocatalysts. In this study, a hydrothermal synthesis method is proposed for preparing four types of p–n heterojunctions, BiVO /BiOX (X = F, Cl, Br, I). BiVO is an n-type semiconductor and BiOX is a p-type semiconductor. Photocatalytic activity tests showed that the BiVO /BiOF has the best photocatalytic performance under visible light, and photoluminescence spectra confirmed the lowest recombination rate of photogenerated charge carriers for BiVO /BiOF as compared with others. 4 4 4 4

    Screen printing is attracting attention as a method for manufacturing magnetic components such as on-chip transformers and inductors. Fe–Ni alloys, which have high saturation magnetizations and permeabilities, are suitable as magnetic materials for screen-printed high-frequency devices. Here, we demonstrate the fabrication of a screen-printed film comprising solid-solution Fe–Ni nanoalloys, which can achieve enhanced permeability and reduced eddy-current losses in high-frequency regions. The Fe–Ni nanoalloys were prepared by chemical reduction using sodium borohydride as a reducing reagent followed by hydrogen reduction. X-ray diffraction measurements, electron microscopy, and inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy revealed that well-mixed Fe Ni nanoalloys (x = 40, 21.5, and 10) with grain sizes of ~ 10 nm were synthesized. The obtained nanoalloys showed high saturation magnetizations comparable to bulk alloys. The screen-printed film using the Fe Ni nanoalloy exhibited the highest permeability of the nanoalloy films. The eddy-current loss was suppressed by the synthesis of nanoscale-grained nanoalloys. The permeability was sufficiently high for application in transformers and inductors. x 100−x 21.5 78.5

    To recycle ethylene glycol (HOCH CH OH) fuel in alkaline fuel cells, active and selective catalysts for partially oxidizing HOCH CH OH to glycolic acid (HOCH COOH) and oxalic acid ((COOH) ) are required at the anode; in other words, complete oxidation of HOCH CH OH to CO prevents ethylene glycol recycling. We investigate catalyst activity and selectivity for oxidizing HOCH CH OH to HOCH COOH on Fe(0 0 1), Co(0 001), and Ni(1 1 1) via first-principles calculations. We calculate the oxidation reaction path from HOCH CH OH to HOCH COOH without C–C bond dissociation to avoid CO generation. Partial oxidation of HOCH CH OH to HOCH COOH without C–C bond dissociation proceeds as follows: O–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH OH to generate HOCH CH O; C–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH O to generate HOCH CHO; C–H bond dissociation of HOCH CHO to generate HOCH CO; and OH addition to HOCH CO to generate HOCH COOH. The activation energies for O–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH OH and C–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH O and HOCH CHO on Fe(0 0 1) are 20.2, 22.8, and 35.2 kcal/mol, respectively, which are the lowest of the three surfaces. Thus, Fe(0 0 1) is most active. To determine the selectivity, we compare the bond dissociation activation energies. The activation energies for C–C bond dissociation of HOCH CH OH and HOCH CH O on Fe(0 0 1) (66.7 and 39.5 kcal/mol, respectively) are higher than those for O–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH OH (20.2 kcal/mol) and C–H bond dissociation of HOCH CH O (22.8 kcal/mol), implying that the O–H bond of HOCH CH OH and C–H bond of HOCH CH O dissociate before the C–C bond dissociation during oxidation on Fe(0 0 1). In contrast, the activation energies for C–H and C–C bond dissociation of HOCH CHO (35.2 and 32.8 kcal/mol, respectively) are similar. The C–H and C–C bonds therefore dissociate during HOCH CHO oxidation. On Co(0 0 0 1) and Ni(1 1 1), the activation energies for C–C bond dissociation of HOCH CH O and HOCH CHO are lower than those for their C–H bond dissociation.     本学術変革領域研究では、イオン伝導体、触媒、蓄電池材料などにおけるイオンの集団運動効果を数理科学により解き明かすことを領域目標としている。この実現に向けて、計画研究A03は高度な計測技術を複合的に活用することで、イオンの集団運動を捉えることを目的とする。A02より提供される高品質なモデル材料に対して、イオンが実際に流れる状態を創り出し、複数のプローブ・計測技術を組み合わせることでイオンダイナミクスを多角的に評価する(オペランドマルチモーダル計測)。
    以上の取り組みにより、これまで未解明であったイオン流を計測により明らかにし、さらに、理論家と材料合成研究者を巻き込んだ新たな研究の進め方を構築する。
