Outline Activities
I have been always making efforts to achieve new tasks. My laboratory acquired a new milestone and entered the third term as a laboratory in 2014. “Succession and Revolution” has been our main subject since 2003 when my laboratory was established. I would like to organize the research that I had continued and develop my research to a new stage. First, I will consolidate the project called “Development of School Leadership for the Next Generation” to which I have devoted myself to for 10 years since my laboratory was established. (My project homepage also will be revised within this year. http://www.education.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~schoolleaders/) I will make efforts to develop my laboratory so that it can respond to the serious needs from school sites as well as the forefront of education.
Amid the rising tension in East Asia, I hope to seek and structure a new research that will serve as a bridge for dialogues among Japan, China and Korea, together with graduate students and international students.
Due to the change of my position in 2013, my responsibilities inside and outside university increased further. I have been managing the problems of Grant-in-aid for Scientific Research and seven projects including commissioned projects, supported by the dedicated cooperation of graduate students. The results will be reported separately. http://www.education.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~schoolleaders/~casemethod/home/.
I assumed the following four major tasks in 2012, 10 years after I returned to Kyushu University:
1. Kyushu University Affiliated Research Center for Korea Studies - Concurrent post of teacher

2. Japanese Association for the Study of Educational Administration
Promotion Committee – Chairperson (Executive Director)http://www.education.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~schoolleaders/~jissen/home/

3. Japan Society for the Study of Education – “Research on Education Studies” Bulletin–Member of Editing Committee

4. Ashiya Town Educational Board Member

Although the above have different characters, they are stimulating jobs for me, because I can relativize them with my experiences in the past and acquire a new research perspective. In this school year, in addition to three Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (an independent study and two collaborative research), there are the activities such as starting research exchange with Kongiu National University, Korea, in full swing and establishing School Toilet Research Group (interdisciplinary research) in Kyushu University Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies.

Educational Activities
* Examples of Practical Educational Methods
(1)1996~, The Class Administration utilizing “the Portfolio” (Evaluation Activity)
Since 1994 when I stood on the platform of the University at first, I have consistently assigned a mini report (feedback and question about the lecture) at the end of each semester. Since 1996, I have integrated this report activity named “Portfolio” and given the students the assignment of “Meta-Evaluation” of the trace of their study during the semester by themselves. Although this trial really takes a lot of time and works in the classes with many students, I have been conducting this approach continuously for most of the classes which I am teaching because this effort is highly evaluated by students.

(2)1998~, Creativity of On-Site Training in Classes such as Role Playing a Competitive Debate.
I am playing out the educational practices only as a class room lecture in the room. For Example, I give the students the simulated experience of the peer support programs for preventing bullies with the feeling of going back to their junior high school time, and I assign them the presentation of the description of catch copies and pictures based on the interpretation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and I let them make their own decisions on educational policies about which people have different opinions according to the methods of competitive debate.

(3)1999~, Introduction of the external research, such as field work.
I am letting students have the physical experience of the educational forefront for real by conducting site visits (North Korean School, World Room, School Lunch, Juvenile School, Children’s Nursing Home, Designated School for Research, Open Space School, etc.) mainly in the exercise classes, such as “Exercise of Experience-based Study for Understanding Children and Schools” (1999~2002), “Exercise of Sociology of the Education Acts” (2003,2008), “Exercise of Pedagogy Field Work” (2003), “Reading Pedagogy Literature” (2004), “Studies in Education Policy” (2005).

1. Textbooks and teaching materials I made‘
(1)1998, 2002, 2006~ Making the Text Book by Myself
I compiled “Pedagogy Materials” in 1998 which explicated the contents of pedagogy needed for nursing staffs based on rights theory, and also made “Special Activity Materials” in 2002 (updated in 2007) which reviewed the situation over special activities from the macro perspective. I am utilizing these text books in my classes.
Additionally, I made “Educational Policy Materials” in 2006 which was edited with some parts of articles in which I (Motokane) was involved with comments and conducted the lecture based on this text book.
I gave the lecture of “Exercise of Sociology of the Education Acts” (Sociology of the Acts for Principal Post) in the first semester of 2010 using the ”Training Text for New Principals” which I complied at the end of 2009.

(2) 1996~ Commercially Supplied Text Book I made
I published “Studying Modern Pedagogy” Hokuju Shuppan in 1996, “General Explanation” COLERE Ltd. in 1998, “New Dictionary of the Education Acts” Hokuju Shuppan in 1999, “Six School Laws of Small Compendium” Kyodo Shuppan by joint authorship in 2003 and I am using them as text books.
I am using “Leaders’ Condition in the Future Generation” (Gyosei) published by single authorship in 2010 as a text book. I also published a text book titled “The Structure and Problems of the System of Modern Education Acts” COLERE Ltd. in 2010.

(3)1999~, Compiling Results Reports
I always compile the results of lectures and exercises on the report pamphlets as much as possible. These efforts make the transference of knowledge possible while students change every year.
In the lecture of “Exercise of Experience-based Study for Understanding Children and Schools”, I put the article about the results of the cross cultural understanding group of 1999 in the news paper titled “Rainbow” published Jun.13th, 2000, and the results from 2001 were put onto the home page established for supporting children care, and the results from 2002 were edited into reports titled “Considering School Lunch”.

As a record of the competitive debate in the lecture of “Comprehensive Exercise” (2001, 2002) and “Exercise of Studies in Education Policy” (2004), I made a report accumulating the contents of arguments and counterarguments with the “Flow Sheets”
For the report of “Reading Pedagogy Literature”, as the “Field Work of the Convention on the Rights of the Child” in 2004, I collected the results, such as “The Interval between “Chibimaruko-chan” and “Nono-chan” – Did children transform?” in 2005 and “The Interpretation of the World of Children Books” in 2005, all the while utilizing them.
I have made the report of the lecture results of “Study on Educational Practice” every year since 2007.
As seminars in graduate school have been transformed into the project based learning type since 2008, I have always published collections of the various reports.
At the lecture of “Administrate Crisis in Schools” of the Night Graduate School for adult commuters in 2010, I compiled the report book about the arguments and results concerning the collaboration-seminar called “the Multidiscipline Collaborated Seminar” to which I invited teachers from the architectural, social-psychological and clinical psychological fields as guests.

(4)1998~, Promotion of Class Research and Curriculum Development for making Teaching Materials.
We established the Research Group for Class Development (Representative: Professor Munefumi Hirata) in Fukuoka University of Education receiving the research grant of “The Research on the Development of Educational Contents/Methods through the Educational Process” from the School Personnel Division, Education Grant Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and made the report in Mar. 2000. I am actively using some parts of this report as a teaching material for the lecture on “Introduction for Teachers” as well.
I made “Text Book for the Crisis-Administration Course” and “Handbook of the Training Course for New Principals” receiving the aid of the “Program of Model-Curriculum Development for Teacher Training Courses” from Incorporated Administrative Agency, National Center for Teachers’ Development for 2 years, 2008 and 2009, I am utilizing these books at the graduate school for adult commuters as well as the department of education.

Social
Professional and Outreach Activities
The Japanese Association for the Study of Educational Administration has established the Practice Promotion Committee as an organization to embody its academic identity, and I have been making efforts to talk with and visit the educational field as Chairperson (Permanent Director) of the Practice Promotion Committee. I am reviewing the “Professional Standards for Principals”, which was compiled by the Chairperson of the Practice Promotion Committee, and presenting the possibility of the utilization of them through the accumulation of cases. As Chairperson of the Project Evaluation Committee for several years, I have been involved in the operation of the Fukuoka Prefecture Education Center with which the Department of Education has exchanged a Relationship Agreement.

I am also engaged deeply in the administration of unit schools, such as in the operation of three primary schools and one junior high school in the town, as a member of the Board of Education of Ashiya Town in Fukuoka Prefecture (since the project of Community School in Kasuga City and former Maebaru City). Since my work with boards of education covers not only schools, but also social education and community renovation, I have utilized the knowledge that I have gained from the experience of long-time participation for the operation of the training course for the director of social education. A memorandum for the collaboration between the Board of Education of Kasuga City and Motokane Laboratory was agreed in 2004, and since then, research exchange has been continued by mainly graduate students.

In addition, activities for social contribution in which my laboratory is playing a central role are not so few, such as the exercise of pedagogy volunteers against the backdrop of the Supporter System of the Board of Education of Fukuoka City as well as the Short Term Management for school managerial positions which have been co-hosted by the Compulsory Education Division of the Education Bureau of Fukuoka Prefecture. However, as an individual person, Motokane already cannot deal with anymore the too many requests for lectures nor offers; therefore, I am considering how our organization can deal with them.

Also, about international cooperation activities, during the collaboration with the Kongju National Teachers College, Kongju National University in South Korea, I am searching for the possibility of the “Two Way Immersion program: TWI” which provides educational philosophy / purpose, such as Bilingualism (Speaking / Listening in two languages ), Bi-literacy ( Reading / Writing in two languages) and Bi-culturism (Understanding / Respecting different cultures) .
