He went to UCLA School of Dentistry between 1995 and 1997, and engaged in the research on temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain. After coming back from US, he expanded the research fields to basic science using animal experiments. He is now engaging in the research on chronic pain, occlusal dysesthesia, evaluation of prosthodontic treatment, etc.
He has been teaching removable prosthodontics and stomatognathic function to undergraduate students through lectures, basic and clinical training courses. He has been also teaching postgraduate students and young dentists.
He has been serving several national and international academic societies, such as Japan Prosthodontic Society, Japan Society of Orofacial Pain, Asian Acedemy of Craniomandibular Disorders as a councilor and/or committee member.
