Outline Activities
 I specialize in "testing (measurement/evaluation) policies and systems. I am particularly interested in the impact of the university entrance examination system on the high school-university connection system. I also apply my knowledge of educational measurement theory as a tool to better understand "testing," but I specialize in sociological, historical, and institutional approaches. As for my recent research, my main work is "Quantitative Historical Sociology of the Postwar University Entrance Selection System," in which I draw the trajectory of postwar university entrance examinations from test data that have been buried in historical documents.
 At the root of my research style is the idea that rather than simply rejecting "tests" out of hand, this would lead to a cessation of thinking about "tests" and, more importantly, would prevent progress in "test" research and stagnate our understanding of "tests" for better or worse. Therefore, I am aiming to conduct research that considers "testing" as a "necessary evil" of society in a realistic manner, and then to think about improvements, system changes, or better ways to use it in order to make it better.
 Furthermore, since "testing" research is an interdisciplinary field of specialization that combines humanities subjects such as pedagogy, psychology, and sociology with science subjects such as informatics and statistics, it is a research field that is suited to people who have a certain degree of strength in numbers and are interested in a variety of things. This is the perfect field for people who are not satisfied with existing academic fields and want to try something that only they do.
