We examined the performance of the OEDO system by decelerating high-energy medium-mass radioactive ions. The main components of the OEDO beamline are two superconducting quadrupole triplet magnets and one radio-frequency deflector. This paper introduces the unique design of the ion optics of the beamline and describes the achieved performance of the beamline in the commissioning and following physics experiments. We will discuss the properties of energy-degraded beams produced by the OEDO beamline by comparison of simulations and the achieved performance..

Aiming to deep understanding and accurate prediction for the emission of light composite particle (LCP) in deuteron-induced reactions, we revise the computational system dedicated to deuteron-induced reactions, called DEURACS. The model by Iwamoto and Harada describing pre-equilibrium cluster emission which was successfully applied to LCP emission in nucleon-induced reactions is integrated into the framework of DEURACS, in which the breakup processes of incident deuteron are explicitly taken into account. The phenomenological model by Kalbach is also adopted to estimate the contribution from the direct pickup process. Using the revised DEURACS, we analyze the (d,xt), (d,xHe3), and (d,xα) reactions in the target mass range 27≤A≤90. Regardless of the targets, the calculation results successfully reproduced the experimental data for each reaction, simultaneously. These results demonstrate that the LCP emission from the pre-equilibrium and compound nucleus processes in deuteron-induced reactions, which occupies a large part of the total LCP emission, can be described by the same theoretical models as used in nucleon-induced reactions when the breakup processes of incident deuteron are properly considered..

A test board equipped with 65-nm bulk 6-T CMOS static random access memories was irradiated by quasi-monoenergetic neutrons, and the number of SEUs was counted. The number of SEUs obtained by the board-side irradiation was approximately 20% to 30% smaller than that obtained by irradiation on the plastic package side. We also investigated the impact of irradiation side on the soft error rates (SERs) obtained with by the terrestrial neutron energy spectrum via a Monte Carlo simulation. The SER obtained from the plastic package side irradiation was approximately twice that obtained for the board side irradiation, indicating that SERs can be reduced by equipping the device with the package side facing downward. Additionally, based on the simulation, the atomic composition of the material placed in front of the memory chip has a considerable influence on the SER because production yields and angular distributions of secondary H and He ions (the main causes of SEUs) depend on the composition. In particular, the existence of hydrides, such as plastic, considerably increases the SER because of the higher production yields of secondary H ions that are generated via elastic scattering of neutrons with hydrogen atoms..

Wang Liao, Masanori Hashimoto, Seiya Manabe, Shin Ichiro Abe, Yukinobu Watanabe, Similarity analysis on neutron- and negative muon-induced MCUs in 65-nm bulk SRAM, IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 10.1109/TNS.2019.2921365, 66, 7, 1390-1397, 2019.07, Multiple-cell upset (MCU) in static random access memory (SRAM) is a major concern in radiation effects on very large scale integration (VLSI) since it can spoil error correcting codes (ECCs). Neutron-induced MCUs have been characterized for terrestrial environment. On the other hand, negative muon-induced MCUs, which are caused by secondary ions generated through muon capture process, were recently reported. Neutron- A nd negative muon-induced MCUs are both caused by secondary ions, and hence, they are expected to have some similarity. In this paper, we compare negative muon- A nd neutron-induced MCUs in 65-nm bulk SRAMs at the irradiation experiments using spallation and quasi-monoenergetic neutrons and monoenergetic negative muons. The measurement results show that the dependencies of MCU event cross section on operating voltage are almost identical. The high operating voltage makes both negative muon- A nd neutron-induced MCU cross sections larger due to parasitic bipolar action. Consequently, large-bit MCUs are observed under the irradiation using both neutrons and muons. On the other hand, at 0.4 V, neutrons induce larger-bit MCUs (> 12 bits) whereas negative muons cause up to 11-bit MCUs. Upsets of 3 or larger bits along word line (WL) are observed at spallation neutron beams. To explain the similarity of MCUs induced by neutrons and negative muons, the Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to investigate the deposited charge. The distributions of deposited charge obtained by the simulation are consistent with the above-mentioned experimental observations..

This result is consistent with the previous works reporting muon-induced SEU event cross section increases with technology scaling. The measured result also suggests the contribution of direct ionization to the total SEU event cross section is 54.1% at 28-nm node with operating voltage of 0.6 V while it is 1.8% at 65-nm node with 0.9 V..

The results show that the neutron-induced multiple cell upset (MCU) rates of SOTB at 0.4 V and 1.0 V are 0.01 times and 0.003 times lower than those of bulk at 0.4 V and 1.0 V, respectively. In advanced bulk low-voltage SRAM, protons can be dominant secondary particles, which brings drastic SER elevation, but this will not arise in SOTB SRAM due to its thin SOI layer. We also characterized the immunity to positive and negative muons. We observed negative muon induced more upsets due to muon capture process. We also confirmed that SOTB SRAM was more robust to muon than bulk SRAM..

a new nuclear data library for innovative studies on transmutation of long-lived fission products, journal of nuclear science and technology, 10.1080/00223131.2019.1647889, 2019.01, A new nuclear data library, JENDL/ImPACT-2018, was developed for an innovative study on the transmutation of long-lived fission products. Nuclear reaction cross-sections were newly evaluated for incident neutrons and protons up to 200 MeV for 163 nuclides focusing on long-lived nuclei such as 79Se, 93Zr, 107Pd and 135Cs, adopting some parts of JENDL-4.0. Our challenge was an evaluation of cross-sections for a number of unstable nuclei over a wide energy range where the experimental data were very scarce. We estimated cross-sections based on a nuclear model code CCONE by incorporating an advanced knowledge on the nuclear structure theory and a model-parameterization based on new experimental cross-sections measured by the inverse kinematics. Through comparisons with available experimental data on the stable isotopes, it is found that the present data give better agreements with them than those in the existing libraries. In a neutronics simulation by the PHITS code, we also found that the largest impact of the present library was seen on the estimated amount of isotope productions..

The 93 Zr(n,γ) 94 Zr reaction is particularly important as a candidate nuclear transmutation reaction for the long-lived fission product 93 Zr in nuclear power plants. One- and two-neutron removal cross sections on Pb and C targets were measured to deduce the inclusive Coulomb breakup cross sections, 375 ± 29 (stat.) ± 30 (syst.) and 403 ± 26 (stat.) ± 31 (syst.) mb for 93 Zr and 94 Zr, respectively. The results are compared with estimates using the standard Lorentzian model and microscopic calculations. The results reveal a possible contribution of the pygmy dipole resonance or giant quadrupole resonance in the Coulomb breakup reactions of 94 Zr..

X-ray emission intensity increases as ∼ I 4.5 with laser intensity I on a target. High spectrally resolved x-ray emission from front and rear surfaces of 5 μm thickness stainless steel targets were obtained at the wavelength range 1.7-2.1 Å, for the first time in experiments at femtosecond petawatt laser facility J-KAREN-P. Total intensity of front x-ray spectra three times dominates to rear side spectra for maximum laser intensity I ≈ 3.21021 W/cm2. Growth of x-ray emission is mostly determined by contribution of bremsstrahlung radiation that allowed estimating bulk electron plasma temperature for various magnitude of laser intensity on target..
