El-Hendawy, Masahiro Kishida, Kinetic Modelling of the Influence of H2S on Dibenzothiophene Hydrodesulfurization in a Batch System over Nano-MoS2, Advances in Chemical Engineering and Science, 10, 3, 135-148, doi: 10.4236/aces.2020.103010., 2020.07, In this work, the possibility of enhanced activity during the hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene over certain nano-MoS2 catalyst due to the presence of H2S was examined by focusing on the reaction kinetics. With H2S generated in situ, the overall reaction followed the autocatalytic rate law; while in the absence of H2S the kinetics indicated a pseudo-first-order reaction. H2S appears to modify the relative contributions of parallel hydrogenation and desulfurization reactions by drastically increasing the hydrogenation rate. Kinetic models were developed that describe the hydrodesulfurization reaction at various H2S concentrations, and the kinetic parameters and adsorption equilibrium constants associated with this process were estimated by fitting the experimental data. The results suggest that the promotion and/or inhibition of hydrodesulfurization by H2S likely result from the same overall reaction mechanism..

Mohamed Mahmoud Nasef, Highly Active Low Cobalt Content-Based Bulk MoS2 Hydrodesulfurization Catalysts with a Unique Impact of H2S, Journal of Chemistry, https://doi.org/10.1155/2018/8076534, 2018, Article ID: 8076534, 2018.09, A series of unsupported MoS 2 , Co 9 S 8 , and Co-promoted MoS 2 catalysts have been synthesized by tuned impregnation and successive thermal annealing methods using a continuous flow of a mixture of H 2 and H 2 S gases. The resulting catalysts were evaluated in terms of their activity and selectivity for the hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT) both in the absence and the presence of H 2 S. The inclusion of Co onto MoS 2 affected both the hydrogenation and direct desulfurization reactions, with the latter (production of biphenyl) being magnified to a much greater degree than the former. Interestingly, low cobalt/molybdenum ratio of ca. 0.05 of the catalyst exhibited outstanding promotion efficiency in the hydrodesulfurization reaction. However, as cobalt is added, the synergy effect drastically decreased. H 2 S in the reaction mixture led to a remarkable step up in the product from the direct desulfurization reaction route with the most notable increases occurring for the product from the hydrogenation reaction pathway. The HDS activity of such catalysts was much higher than that of the commercial CoMo/Al 2 O 3 . The promotion by H 2 S was discussed..

The models allow precise estimation of the apparent rate constants of all steps in such a reaction network. The hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) over CoMo-based alumina and carbon catalysts, and over an unsupported molybdenum sulfide catalyst, were investigated in a batch reactor and used to represent this type of reaction. The HDS reactions proceeded through two parallel–consecutive reaction pathways, i.e., direct desulfurization (DDS) and hydrogenation (HYD), in which two main intermediates, namely biphenyl and partially hydrogenated DBT, were involved. Different selectivities in terms of yield fraction (percentage ratio of HYD/DDS) were observed for these catalysts. The results are discussed in the context of proposed HDS reaction networks.
