[緒言]
高機能性炭素材は従来の黒鉛,コークス,活性炭,カーボンブラック,黒鉛電極をはじめ,最近のリチウムイオン電池用負極材や炭素ナノチューブやグラフェンなどのナノ炭素材に至るまで多様な組成や構造の炭素材で構成される.日本は高機能性炭素材の製造と応用において技術や価格の両面で世界をリードする炭素先進国である.こうした高機能性炭素材は天然黒鉛以外すべて人造カーボンであり,有機系原料の熱処理によって形成される炭素六角網面(グラフェン)の積層した構造からなる.炭素材は一般的に有機物質から調製されるが,低コストなため,石炭,石油,バイオマス,およびその誘導体であるガス,タール,ピッチ,コークスやチャーなど炭素材と類似な分子構造を持つ原料が一般に用いられる.こうした原料は炭素以外の酸素,窒素,硫黄等のヘテロ元素と共に多様な無機物を含んでおり,これらは炭素材の製造過程で様々な官能基と不純物として残存し,製品の炭素材の物性に影響する.
本発表では,こうしたヘテロ元素の中でも窒素官能基の種類が炭素材の機能性に及ぼす影響とそれを利用した機能性炭素材の調製について例を示しながら紹介する.窒素は化石燃料やバイオマスを構成する重要な元素であり,炭素とは異なる分子構造をもたらすため,機能性炭素材において特有の官能基として機能する.炭素材の中で窒素原子が含まれた官能基を有する材料を窒素ドープ炭素と呼び,微量の不純物を添加する一般的なドーピングに対し,機能性を高めるためにわざわざ多量の窒素を含有する材料も利用されている.窒素ドープ炭素の製造は,原料に窒素を含む化合物を用いるか合成系中に窒素分を共存させて行う.
図1に示したように炭素六角網面に窒素原子が入り込むことで,π電子系に影響が及ぼされ,ピリジン型窒素の塩基性誘因やグラファイト型窒素の正帯電などの現象が起こるとされている1).このような電子状態の変化により,酸素還元反応を始めとした種々の触媒活性や電気化学的諸特性の向上が報告されているが2, 3),本発表では代表的なインドア大気汚染物質のであるホルムアルデヒド(HCHO)シックハウスガスの吸着・除去における窒素官能基の影響,そしてその問題点と解決手法について説明する.

32. 中島 秀喜, 島ノ江 明生, Ko Seunghyun, Jeon Young-Pyo, 中林 康治, 宮脇 仁, 尹 聖昊, メソフェーズピッチの光学的異方性と分子積層との相関性の解明, 第46回炭素材料学会年会, 2019.11, 紡糸用メソフェーズピッチは炭素繊維,電池用負極材等に重要な前駆体として期待されている.本研究では可溶性石商ピッチをリオトロピック液晶の観点から把握し,水素供与性・受容性を有する溶媒分子と分子積層性を有する溶質、メソゲンでメソフェーズピッチは構成されていると考え、メソゲンが過剰に存在する場合、異方性組織は発現するが、溶融解ができず、異方性コークスが生成され、溶媒分子が過剰に存在する場合、溶融解はできるが、異方性組織が発現せず、等方性ピッチが生成される。つまり、メソゲン濃度がある濃度以上のとき、メソフェーズ特性が生じることを明確にした。こうした研究によって可溶性液晶ピッチの収率向上と共に物性改善の重要な手法を提案することになった..

TCNF which has lots of nano-gated channels on the surface could incorporate about 32 wt% of nano-sized TiO2 particles inside of the tube. The obtained TiO2 entrained TCNT (TiO2/TCNF) showed a large discharge capacities of 320 mAh/g and 120 mAh/g compared to those of bare TiO2 in both of the Li-ion and Na-ion battery systems, respectively..

In this study, we used the three aromatic compounds of naphthalene, anthracene and pyrene with a cross-linking agent for obtaining cokes with different closed pores. The closed pore volume of prepared carbon materials was calculated from the difference between true and apparent densities. From the results, carbon materials derived from smaller ring membered compound (naphthalene) based coke showed larger volume of closed pore compared to anthracene and pyrene based ones. Graphitized PCNF (GPCNF) was exfoliated into nano-sized graphitic oxides using the Hummer’s reagent and then nano-sized graphitic oxides were reduced by mechanical hydrothermal method. The reduction conditions were systematically investigated by taking account of the influences of maximum reaction temperature, ethylene glycol/deionized water ratio, and rotation speed. In this study, we tried to prepare a spinnable isotropic pitch which can be useful to prepare the general performance carbon fiber through the co-carbonization of biotar with ethylene bottom oil. The results showed that the co-carbonization of biotar and ethylene bottom oil was very effective to prepare the spinnable biomass derived pitch without any hydrogenation or toxic solvent treatment. The carbon fiber derived from the obtained spinnable pitch showed the tensile strength of over 800 MPa..

Jian-Xiao Yang, Kim Byung Jun, 尹 聖昊, Development of novel preparation method for spinnable pitch through the halogenation-dehydrohalogenation of biotar and ethylene bottom oil mixture, 炭素材料学会年会, 2013.12, We have successfully prepared the biotar derived carbon fiber with over 800 MPa of tensile strength using the spinnable isotropic pitches which were prepared by the simple co-carbonization of biotar and ethylene bottom oil. In this work, we tried to develop the novel preparation method, that is, bromination and dehydrobromination, for spinnable isotropic pitch using the mixture of biotar and ethylene bottom oil as raw materials. Mixtures of biotar and ethylene bottom oil at various compositions were brominated and dehydrobrominated at relatively low temperature to prepare basic pitches. The prepared basic pitches were successively distilled under vacuum to obtain spinnable isotropic pitches. The obtained spinnable pitch by the bromination and dehydrobromination showed higher pitch yield of 45 wt% and higher softening point than the spinnable pitch by the simple distillation method. .
