We developed a method and a program to estimate demand of electricity and heat (heating, cooling and hot water) of non-residential buildings for one year. This program makes fluctuation in demand by 5-minutes intervals to reproduce the actual fluctuation depending on the type of buildings, total floor area, outdoor air temperature and so on. We can consider ideal based on the demand data..

Azizuddin Abd Aziz, Daisuke Sumiyoshi, Yasunori Akashi, Design procedure for dual air handling unit of air-conditioning system, 2018 UTP-UMP-VIT Symposium on Energy Systems, SES 2018 MATEC Web of Conferences, 10.1051/matecconf/201822504016, 225, 2018.11, The use of conventional air-conditioning system in tropical climate is ineffective to reduce the humidity. In a typical application, the indoor temperature has to be overcooled to decrease the humidity which has an inherent effect of high energy consumption. The introduction of dual air handling unit (AHU) is the answer to high humidity environment. Each AHU is tasked to control the parameter of temperature and humidity respectively according to the desired value. In this paper, the objective is to design the procedure of sizing the dual AHU so that the control system could run efficiently. Basically, eight (8) steps are necessary to size the dual AHU system and the procedure requires sequential manner. Namely, the design process are indoor design condition, fresh air flow, outdoor design condition, room cooling load, capacity of both AHUs, supply air temperature of second AHU, supply air temperature of first AHU and the enthalpy of both AHUs. The design procedure also requires a psychrometric chart to indicate the air thermal condition throughout the cycle of the air-conditioning system. In conclusion, the proposed design procedure is simple yet effective for the application of dual AHU system to handle the excessive latent heat environment..

18. Takahiro Yamamoto, Koshiro Amatatsu, Daisuke Sumiyoshi, Estimation energy saving effects of sharing fuel cell with two households by simulation program
Study on effective usage of the home fuel cell in the apartment housing, Journal of Environmental Engineering (Japan), 10.3130/aije.83.365, 83, 746, 365-374, 2018.04, The purpose of this study is to propose an introduction method of fuel cells to households of apartments. This paper examined, with simulation, the effects of sharing fuel cell with multiple households. Introduction methods of normal types of fuel cells would tend to have less of an energy-saving effect on households with fewer members (households consisting of one person or households consisting of one couple), because the load of electric power or water heating system tends to be small. Therefore, this study examined effects of energy saving in sharing one fuel cell between two households. It was verified that, when diversified combinations of load patterns were simulated for two households sharing system, this method could have sufficient effects..
19. Azizuddin Abd Aziz, Daisuke Sumiyoshi, Yasunori Akashi, Low cost humidity controlled air-conditioning system for building energy savings in tropical climate, Journal of Building Engineering, 10.1016/j.jobe.2017.03.005, 11, 9-16, 2017.05, The viable solution to the high latent load that naturally occurs in tropical regions requires an alternative system that runs at relatively low energy consumption yet be able to provide indoor thermal comfort by effective handling of the excessive humidity. Although the existing outdoor air treatment system is a proven approach, it is unpopular in developing countries due to its high initial cost. In this paper, a new system termed Dual Air Handling Unit system is proposed to be the answer. The function of Humidity-control Air Handling Unit is to remove the moisture from the conditioned room up to the desired humidity level and in the process the room temperature is also fractionally reduced. The Temperature-control Air Handling Unit completes the task by removing the remaining sensible heat so that the room temperature is maintained at the required set-point. By reducing the relative humidity to 50%, a much lower value than that of the normal air-conditioning could offer, room temperature of the new system is shifted higher to 26 °C in order to reduce the energy consumption. The simulation result shows that the proposed system offers energy savings up to 13.2% compared to the conventional air-conditioning system, without compromising the thermal comfort of the occupants..

Xiangxiang Gao, Jiaping Liu, Rongrong Hu, Yasunori Akashi, Daisuke Sumiyoshi, A simplified model for dynamic analysis of the indoor thermal environment of rooms with a Chinese kang, Building and Environment, 10.1016/j.buildenv.2016.10.012, 111, 265-278, 2017.01, This paper uses thermodynamics equilibrium theory to develop a mathematical model for dynamic thermal processes pertaining to rooms with a Chinese kang (a heatable brick bed). The model is developed through analysis of the dynamic thermal equilibrium of indoor air temperature and the temperature of interior and exterior surfaces of the building envelopes of rooms with a kang. It is developed and solved using a thermal reaction coefficient. Based on data from a field test, a simplified mathematical model of thermal processes in such a room is presented. The model only takes into account the radiation heat transfer between the exterior surface of the kang's faceplate and the other interior surfaces of the building envelope, while ignoring the reciprocal radiation heat transfer between all other interior surfaces. A simplified mathematical model pertaining to the Chinese kang is also put forward. This model does not take into account the reciprocal radiation heat transfer between the interior surfaces of the Chinese kang. By combining these two models, the hourly values pertaining to indoor air temperature and exterior temperature of the kang's faceplate can be predicted for different burning modes of the Chinese kang. MATLAB was used for calculating the target temperatures and solving the thermal reaction coefficient. The model was validated by error analysis and correlation analysis, the result of which shows that this mathematical model can accurately predict various characteristics concerning the temperatures in a room with a Chinese kang..

Heba Hassan, Daisuke Sumiyoshi, Ahmed El-Kotory, Takafumi Arima, Aly Ahmed, Measuring people's perception towards Earth-sheltered buildings using photo-questionnaire survey, Sustainable Cities and Society, 10.1016/j.scs.2016.05.005, 26, 76-90, 2016.10, The earth-sheltered buildings started to be known as an alternative passive energy design technique. This research is trying to measure people's acceptance, to live in or deal with these buildings, whom had no previous experience, using the photo-questionnaire survey and interviews with a purposive expert sample (n = 164) at Egypt and Japan. Using the chi-square test, to generalize the results, the inferential statistics showed that 48.8% from the whole sample had a little knowledge, which means that it started to be recognizable among experts. In addition, 55.5% from the sample chose the application at a touristic city with mild climate. Moreover, 43.3% chose the residential usage, and 40.0% chose the touristic one. Which infers that the only bias of applying those buildings was psychological, according to its name related with "Earth". However, when people had experienced the questionnaire through videos and pictures, they showed good reaction about those buildings. The significant results recommended for architects and urban planners to use this kind of buildings first at a touristic city with mild climate as a beginning, to give the public a chance to try it for short time as a resort or hotel. Afterwards, they can apply it at the residential sector..

Initially, we build the dynamic model respectively for every individual system on the basis of their respective working principles. Then we propose operation strategies of electric power and hot water separately for the integration of the models. Followed, we apply a genetic algorithm to optimize the installed capacities of the systems, aiming at reducing the conventional energy consumption and the life cycle costs. With a complete database, the integration and optimization methodology are finally applied to a typical building located in Fukuoka City in Japan. It is shown by the computer simulation that the methodology which we propose can help to reduce considerable quantity of residential energy consumption and expense..

The field surveys show that the existing residential buildings use some elements of passive designs. However, the current condition does not satisfy the local people, it still needs improving. Residential building passive design strategy is one of the important steps for urban scale heating energy saving. The simulation models were established for in-depth understanding the relationship between building design factors and heating energy consumption. Three common unit layouts and the envelope thermal designs as windows type, window-wall ratio and external wall thermal resistance were studied. The combination and interaction of the design factors were analyzed. The result shows with proper design factors' combination, the heating energy consumption of apartment in Lhasa can be considerably reduced. The scenario of urban scale residential building of future Lhasa is described by forecasting the urban composing factors like population, household number, disposable income, living area and so on. With the scenario analysis, the passive design strategies were generated based on the results of passive design study. The effectiveness validation of the strategy shows that a deceleration of urban heating energy consumption growth with city developing can be achieved..

A total of 25 representative cities of China were selected for optimum analysis. This paper presents an approach in which the orthogonal method and the listing method are integrated to explore how energy consumption is minimized in residential buildings by optimizing 7 passive design measures for each city: wall thickness (WT), roof insulation thickness (RIT), external wall insulation thickness (EWIT), window orientation (WO), window-wall ratio (WWR), glazing type (GT), and sunroom depth/overhang depth (SD/OD). With the optimization, the passive design could reduce annual thermal load of building considerably, even could replace air-condition systems in winter for the areas with high solar radiation such as Lhasa. The results reveal that neighbor cities have the same optimal combinations and the similar effects of energy-saving measures. A total of 7 passive design zones were summarized in a map. The architect could be guided in his choice of appropriate passive measures directly from the map or handling of exact passive design by the optimal approach proposed in this paper for different areas in China..

In addition, equipment containing an air-conditioning system gradually degrade through everyday use. This is the reason they fail to fully demonstrate the level of performance, which was estimated when they were designed. For this reason, if we understand such a degradation condition, we could determine the appropriate timing to repair, exchange and overhaul the equipment. Moreover, we could possibly prevent complaints caused by their incapability and energy waste throughout the year.
Therefore, in this study, we developed an automatic optimization and degradation detection tool..
