Toshiya Hirowatari, Sadahisa Yagi, Issei Ohshima, Guo-Hua Huang, Min Wang, Review of the genus Vespina (Lepidoptera, Incurvariidae) with two new species from China and Japan, Zootaxa, 10.11646/zootaxa.4927.2.3, 4927, 2, 209-233, 2021.02, Asian species of the genus Vespina Davis, 1972 (Lepidoptera, Incurvariidae) are mainly reviewed. Vespina meridiana Hirowatari & Yagi sp. nov. from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, and Vespina sichuana Hirowatari, Huang & Wang sp. nov. from Sichuan, China, are described. The previously known Vespina species are associated with plants from the Fagaceae family on the western coast of the USA and East Asia and with Sapindaceae (Aceraceae) in eastern Europe. The two new species described here are associated with Fagaceae and Myricaceae, respectively, in warm temperate areas in Asia. Vespina nielseni Kozlov, 1987, which was only known from East Asia, is newly recorded from South China. A checklist for the genus is provided herein. Morphological information of the immature stages of the two new species is partially provided. The absence or reduction of a female frenulum and presence of approximately 20 thin pseudofrenular bristles, the dorsoventrally flattened pupa, and the minute tergal spines scattered on abdominal segments 3–8 are considered as possible autapomorphies of Vespina..

Sadahisa Yagi, Nagao Hirano, Toshiya Hirowatari, Taxonomic notes on the Ectoedemia suberis and angulifasciella species groups in Japan (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae), ZOOTAXA, 10.11646/zootaxa.4706.2.1, 4706, 2, 201-230, 2019.12, Diagnoses and notes on biology and distribution of Japanese species of the suberis and angulifasciella groups of the genus Ectoedemia Busck, 1907 are given. Two species, E. chasanella Puplesis, 1984 and E. ortiva Rociene & Stonis, 2013, are reported for the first time from Japan and their morphology is redescribed. In addition, we provide molecular identification of the two species and their relatives based on COI barcode sequences and the nuclear gene (EF1-alpha) sequences. The female of E. chasanella is described for the first time. We confirm that E. chasanella utilizes Quercus species (Fagaceae) as its hostplant: Q. dentata, Q. serrata, Q. crispula, and Q. acutissima. Ectoedemia ortiva was formerly placed in the suberis group, and its host plant was unknown. We move this species to the angulifasciella group and provide evidence that it utilizes Ulmus sp. (Ulmaceae) as its host plant..

Khine Mon Mon Kyaw, Sadahisa Yagi, Jouhei Oku, Yositaka Sakamaki, Toshiya Hirowatari, Taxonomic study of Thiotricha Meyrick (Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae) in Japan, with the description of two new species, ZOOKEYS, 10.3897/zookeys.897.38529, 897, 67-99, 2019.12, A part of Japanese species of the genus Thiotricha Meyrick, 1886 are reviewed. Three species described by Omelko (1984) in the genus Cnaphostola Meyrick, 1918 are placed in combination with Thiotricha; Thiotricha biformis, T. angustella comb. nov. and T. venustalis comb. nov. These species are redescribed, and two new species, T. elaeocarpiella Kyaw, Yagi & Hirowatari, sp. nov. and T. flavitermina Kyaw, Yagi & Hirowatari, sp. nov. are described based on external morphological characters of adults and genitalia of males and females. Thiotricha chujaensis (Park, 2016), comb. nov. described in Cnaphostola from Korea, is newly recorded in Japan feeding on Mallotus japonica (Euphorbiaccae). One of the new species, T. elaeocatpiella sp. nov. has been associated with two different plants, Elaeocarpus zollingeri (Elaeocarpaceae) and Rhaphiolepis indica (Rosaceae). This paper presents the first comprehensive description of the morphology, pupal morphology and biology of species previously treated in the genus Cnaphostola and their relatives in Japan..

Two new Antispila species, A. longcangensis, sp. nov. and A. emeishanensis, sp. nov. feeding on Hydrangeaceae, are described from Sichuan, China. The adult male and female, genitalia and venation of both species are illustrated. Diagnostic characters of these species are compared with other described Antispila species from China. Two new species are described from Indochina: Cleotomiris inthanon Duwal & Yasunaga sp.nov. (Thailand) and Cleotomiroides vietnamensis Duwal & Yasunaga sp. nov. (Vietnam). New distributional records are also presented for some known species of Hallodapus Fieber and Wygomiris Schuh. Hallodapus persimilis (Poppius) is proposed as a junior synonym of H. ravenar (Poppius). Illustrations of the endosoma for four species, including the new species, are presented. Digital images of the male genitalic structures are shown for nine species, including the two new species, and also female genitalic structures of the species of Cleotomiris Schuh, Cleotomiroides Schuh and Wygomiris Schuh, are provided. We found that N. sp. P comprised two Nigrobaetis species in Kanto Plain and in Ishigaki Island, which we described as N. apterus Fujitani n. sp. and N. ishigakiensis Fujitani n. sp., respectively. We also described N. sp. I as N. latus Fujitani n. sp. We recorded N. acinaciger (Kluge), the nymph of which had been confused with N. chocoratus (Gose), from Japan for the first time. Two new species, Megahyliota cryptolucidus sp. nov. and Macrohyliota sculptus sp. nov. (misidentified with Mac. gracilicornis (Arrow)), are described. Also described are mature larvae of four species, Dendrophagus longicornis Reitter, Mac. sculptus sp. nov., Meg. cryptolucidus sp. nov., and Uleiota arboreus (Reitter), and pupae of three species, Mac. sculptus sp. nov., Meg. cryptolucidus sp. nov., and U. arboreus. Previously four species, namely Morophagoides ussuriensis (Caradja, 1920), M. moriutii Robinson, 1986, M. occidentalis Osada, Yoshimatsu, Sakai and Hirowatari, 2014 and M. meridianus Osada, Yoshimatsu, Sakai and Hirowatari, 2014 were recognized for the Japanese fauna. In the present study, four new species, M. breviculus sp. nov., M. robinsoni sp. nov., M. aquilonis sp. nov. and M. yakuensis sp. nov., from Japan are described based on adult characters. Two new genera and four new species are described, two subgenera are raised to generic status, seven new combinations are made, and one genus and six species are newly recorded from China. The seven new combinations are: Rotunda rotundapex ( Miyata & Kishida, 1990), comb. nov., Triuncina nitida ( Chu & Wang, L. Y., 1993), comb. nov., Gunda sesostris ( Vuillot, 1893), comb. nov., Smerkata fusca ( Kishida, 1993), comb. nov., Comparmustilia sphingiformis ( Moore, 1879), comb. nov., Comparmustilia semiravida ( Yang, 1995), comb. nov., Comparmustilia gerontica ( West, 1932), comb. nov.. The two subgenera raised to generic level are: Promustilia Zolotuhin, 2007, stat. nov. and Smerkata Zolotuhin, 2007, stat. nov.. The distributions of the species in China were determined and distributional maps provided. (host plants: Symplocos anomala, S. sumuntia, Symplocaceae) from China, Guttigera schefflerella sp. nov. (host plant: Schefflera octophylla, Araliaceae), Eumetriochroa araliella sp. nov. The female adult and pupal morphologies, life history and host plant of the genus Guttigera are described for the first time. Pupae of seven species of four genera: Corythoxestis, Eumetriochroa, Guttigera, and Metriochroa, are described for the first time. We provide morphological diagnostic differences between species and genera of Oecophyllembiinae and Phyllocnistis. Our preliminary data suggest that Oecophyllembiinae species have three valuable pupal diagnostic characters: 1) cocoon cutter with unique lateral processes or setae on the clypeus, 2) tergal spines with only a pair of dorsal setae, and 3) cremaster with more than two pairs of caudal processes, while Phyllocnistis species possess 1) cocoon cutter without lateral processes or setae on clypeus, 2) tergal spines with a pair of dorsal setae and dorsal hooks, and 3) cremaster with only a pair of caudal processes..

Yohei Osada, Toshiya Hirowatari, Makoto Sakai, True identity of the shiitake fungus moth, Morophagoides moriutii (Lepidoptera: Tineidae), APPLIED ENTOMOLOGY AND ZOOLOGY, 10.1007/s13355-012-0145-3, 48, 1, 15-20, 2013.02, Morophagoides moriutii Robinson, 1986 is an important pest of the shiitake mushroom, Lentinula edodes. After dissecting the abdomen of the holotype of M. moriutii, we recognized that the male genitalia are apparently different from those of the paratype illustrated in the original description at the species level. To provide basic information to assist in the control of pests of the mushroom, we describe the general habitus and genitalia of the true M. moriutii for the first time. Our study also reveals that M. moriutii has a restricted distribution in Honshu and Shikoku, Japan, contrary to the previous belief that the species occurred more widely from Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu) to Taiwan. Although M. ussuriensis (Caradja in Deutsch Entomol Zeit 34:75-180, 1920) was formerly assigned to the Japanese representative of the genus Morophagoides, this was proved to be a misidentification by Robinson (Bull Br Mus Nat Hist (Ent) 52(2):37-181 1986) and he described it as a new species, M. moriutii. We have identified the true M. ussuriensis from Japan (Hokkaido, Aomori Pref. and Tsushima Is.) for the first time. Therefore, here we also describe the general habitus and genitalia of true M. ussuriensis..

Seventeen moth species were identified: Niditinea striolella (Tineidae), Agonopterix sp. (Elachistidae) from Blakiston's Fish Owl, Ketupa blakistoni, nests; Monopis lon-gella (= pavlovskii), M flavidorsalis, M. sp., M congestella, Niditinea baryspilas, N. striolella, N. sp. (Tineidae), Martyringa ussuriella (Oecophoridae), Mabra charonialis (Crambidae), Pyralis regalis (Pyralidae) from Ural Owl, Strix uralensis, nests; Tinea translucens, Niditinea baryspilas (Tineidae) from Brown Hawk-Owl, Ninox scutulata, nests; Opogona sacchari, O. sp., Phaeoses sp. (Tineidae) from Collared Scops Owl, Otus lempiji, nests; and Opogona sacchari, Phaeoses sp., Setomorpha sp. (Tineidae), Endotricha theonalis (Pyralidae) from Ryukyu Scops Owl, Otus elegans, nests. The moth nest fauna varied among owl species. The differences were related to owl prey (fish, small animals and birds, insects) and habitats (urban area, forest), and the tineid species selecting the nest. Tineids are presumed to decompose keratin found in owl nests and help maintain the cleanliness of the nest chamber, and such relationships between tineids and owls may be mutualistic. Rapid burrowing into owl nest materials by tineids may reflect a strategy to avoid being preyed upon by the nest owners..

Polypedilum (Pentapedilum) acristylum sp. nov. is described as adult male, and compared with the closest P. (Pe.) nodosum Johannsen, 1932.
Pentapedilum iriodeeum Sasa et Suzuki, 2000 is treated as a junior synonym of P. (Tripodura) tananense Sasa et Hasegawa, 1988. A total of 514 butterflies belonging to 61 species and representing six families were caught in the traps. Melanitis leda (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae), Charaxes bernardus (Nymphalidae: Charaxinae), and Danaus genutia (Nymphalidae: Danainae) were the species most frequently caught (60, 52 and 47 individuals, respectively), representing 31% of the total. These three species are generalists and "disturbance indicators" for tropical rainforest, being characteristic of disturbed or secondary forests, being distributed widely, and having larvae that feed on a wide range of host plants. In contrast, other species, such as Trogonoptera brookiana and Troides amphrysus, were recorded before the fires but were not recorded again afterwards. The pre- and post-fire butterfly fauna of East Kalimantan were compared on the basis of butterfly specimens deposited in the Tropical Rain Forest Research Center that were collected in and around the Bukit Soeharto Education Forest before the fires (1988-1995). On the basis of the post-fire survey, based on Malaise trap samples and field observations, only 43% of the butterfly species (not including Lycaenidae and Hesperiidae) were confirmed to have persisted. 58. 水川 瞳, 広渡 俊哉, 橋本 里志, 日本産スイコバネガ属(スイコバネガ科)の一新種, 蝶と蛾, 57, 3, 149-155, 2006.06, 1989年と2002年の4月下旬に,大阪府和泉葛城山において特異な斑紋をもつスイコバネガ科の成虫が採集された.翅脈の特徴から,この種がスイコバネガEricrania属に含まれること,また,雌雄交尾器などから新種であることが明らかになったので記載した. Eriocrania komaii sp. nov. ムラサキマダラスイコバネ(新称) 本種は,前翅に金色の条線が融合し網目状となる(暗紫色の小斑点を多数もつ)こと,ビンクルムから前方に伸びる一組の突起が幅広いこと,雌交尾器の産卵管が幅広いことなどで同属の他種と区別できる.また,本種成虫の採集からおよそ3週間後,採集地点付近でバラ科のウラジロノキに潜葉しているスイコバネガ科の幼虫が採集された.筆者らは和泉葛城山には本種の他にアカシデに潜る種(Eriocrania sp.)とブナに潜る種(イッシキスイコバネIssikiocrania japonicella Moriuti)が同所的に生息することを確認しているが,これら2種の成虫は4月上中旬に出現するのに対して,本種成虫は4月下旬にミドリヒゲナガやムラサキツヤマガリガなどとともにコナラの花に果ていたところを採集されており,幼虫の出現時期もずれていた.これらのことから,ウラジロノキに潜る本科の幼虫は本種の可能性が高いと推測された.スイコバネガ科はブナ科とカバノキ科の植物を主に利用することが知られている.これまでにもDavis (1987)と黒子(1990)がバラ科植物に潜るスイコバネガ科の幼虫について報告しているが成虫の記録はない.本種成虫と潜葉していた幼虫の関連が明らかになれば,スイコバネガ科の寄主植物について重要な情報となる..

62. 広渡 俊哉, 琉球列島のウスベニヒゲナガ属(鱗翅目, ヒゲナガガ科), 蝶と蛾, 56, 4, 311-329, 2005.03, ウスベニヒゲナガNemophora属は, 全世界に約350種(そのうち150種は未記載種)が分布するとされている.日本では22種が知られているが, 琉球列島からはアマミヒゲナガN. marisella Kozlov & Hirowatari, 1997の1種が知られるのみで, 研究は不十分だった.著者や大阪府立大学関係者, 沖縄の木村正明氏らが採集した材料を中心に検討を行った結果, 琉球列島産のウスベニヒゲナガ属に2新種2日本新記録種を含む7種を認めた.ヒゲナガガの成虫は主に昼間にシイ類の花などに集まるものを採集したが, 灯火採集でも多くの個体が得られた.特に, 2002年3月22日に沖縄本島北部の辺土名で木村氏らと日没直後の雷雨の中で行った灯火採集では, 沖縄本島に分布する4種が合計70個体以上も飛来した.本稿では奄美大島で1♀のみが採集されたギンスジヒゲナガを除いて, 各種の雌雄交尾器を図示・記載した.以下は, 琉球列島産ウスベニヒゲナガ属7種の特徴, 分布などの概要である.1. Nemophora ahenea Stringerコンオビヒゲナガ(琉球列島新記録)(Figs 1A-B, 4, 10A-C)中型(開張13-15mm).前翅は金色の光沢を帯びた赤銅-赤紫色で, 細い濃紺色の帯をもつ.前翅前縁基部と帯の両側は明るい青色の鱗粉で縁取られる.本種は琉球列島では八重山諸島(石垣島, 西表島)で採集されているが, 奄美・沖縄諸島では発見されていない.本土産(開張11-13mm)と比べてやや大型で, 前翅は金色の光沢が強い(本土産は紫色の光沢が強い), ♂前翅の紺色の帯が狭い, ♀の触角基部に黒色の鱗粉束をもつ, などの点で異なっているが, 交尾器の形態には顕著な差異は認められなかった.なお, 本州では♂が群飛することが知られているが, 琉球では群飛を観察していない.分布: 本州, 九州, 琉球(石垣島, 西表島);台湾.2. Nemophora pruinosa sp. nov.リュウキュウクロヒゲナガ(新種)(Figs 1E-F, 3C-D, 6, 12A-C)小-中型(開張12-15mm)で, 前翅の地色は黒色で♂では淡黄色, ♀では白色の鱗粉が散布される.白帯の両側は黒色, さらにその外側は鈍い光沢のある鉛色の鱗粉で縁取られる.キオビクロヒゲナガN.umbripennis Stringerに似るが, 本種では♂の下唇鬚が短く短毛がまばらに生じる(Fig. 1N)のに対して, キオビクロヒゲナガでは♂の下唇鬚は長く長毛で蜜に覆われる(Fig. 1O)他, 交尾器の形態も異なる.♂成虫は, シイ類などの樹冠部の上空で群飛していた.分布: 琉球(奄美大島, 沖縄本島, 宮古島).4. Nemophora marisella Kozlov & Hirowatariアマミヒゲナガ(Figs 1G-H, 7, 13A-C)中-大型(開張14-19mm).♂では触角基部, ♀では触角の基半部が黒色鱗で覆われる.前後翅ともに幅広く, 前翅は光沢のない黒褐色で, 白帯は細い.奄美大島産に基づいて記載されたが, 沖縄本島, 八重山諸島(西表島)にも分布することを確認した.西表島産は, 斉藤寿久博士が採集した幼虫を飼育・羽化させたもので, 奄美・沖縄産に比べて小型(開張♂14.4-14.7mm, ♀14.9mm)で黒みが強く, 前翅の白帯は2♂では非常に狭く不明瞭(1♀では明瞭)であった.これが地理的変異なのか個体変異なのかは現時点では不明.分布: 琉球(奄美大島, 沖縄本島, 西表島).5. 67. 岡本 央, 広渡 俊哉, 日本産マガリガ科(鱗翅目)の分布記録と生物学的知見, 蝶と蛾, 55, 3, 173-195, 2004.06, マガリガ科は,全世界に分布し,11属約100種が記載されている.Issiki(1957),Nielsen(1981,1982),Okamoto&Hirowatari(2000),奥(2003)などの研究により,日本産マガリガ科は現在12種が知られる.マガリガ科の幼虫は寄主植物の葉などを円形からだ円形に切り取ってポータブルケースを作り,寄主植物についても比較的よく知られているが,数種については寄主植物が不明のままだった.本稿では日本産マガリガ科に3新記録種を追加し,数種について寄主植物を含む生態を明らかにするとともに,頭部,翅脈,雌の第7腹節,雌雄交尾器を図示した.また,雌雄交尾器が未知あるいは記載が不十分だったものについては記載を行った.以下に,日本産マガリガ科15種の特徴,分布,寄主植物などの概要を示す.1.Phylloporia bistrigella(Haworth,1828)ヒメフタオビマガリガ(新称)(日本新記録)小型(開張8-9mm).前翅は金色の光沢がある黄褐色で,2本の細い銀白色の帯をもつ.Kuprijanov(1992)はPhylloporia属をヒゲナガガ科に含めたが,本稿ではマガリガ科として扱った.分布:北海道,本州;ヨーロッパ,北米.寄主植物:日本では不明.ヨーロッパではシダレカンバ(シダレカバノキ)やヨーロッパシラカンバ(カバノキ科)などが知られている.2.Vespina nielseni Kozlov,1987ホソバネマガリガ小型(開張8-11mm)で,前翅は細長く,茶褐色から黄褐色.後翅は細くやり状で縁毛が長い.分布:北海道,本州,四国,九州;極東ロシア.寄主植物:ナラガシワ,クヌギ,コナラ(ブナ科).本種の幼生期の形態・生態については,Okamoto&Hirowatari(2000)が詳しく記載した.3.Procacitas orientella(Kozlov,1987)ウスキンモンマガリガ中型(開張11.5-15mm).前翅は暗褐色で紫色の光沢をもち,基部1/3に銀白色の帯,前縁に2つ(基部1/2と3/4),肛角付近に1つの細長い銀白色の三角斑をもつ.基部の帯はFig.1Cの個体のように分断することもある.奥(2003)は,岩手県産の標本に基づいて本種を日本から記録した.分布:北海道,本州,四国;ロシア(サハリン,イルクーツク,沿海州),北朝鮮.寄主植物:ベニバナイチヤクソウ(イチヤクソウ科).本種の寄主植物は不明であったが,北海道大学昆虫体系学教室に保管されている標本のラベルデータによって明らかになった.4.Alloclemensia unifasciata Nielsen,1981ヒトスジマガリガ小型(開張7.5-10mm)で,前翅は暗褐色でよわい紫色の光沢をもち,基部1/3に明瞭な黄白色の帯,前縁2/3と肛角付近に三角斑をもつ.分布:北海道,本州,九州.寄主植物:ガマズミ,オオカメノキ(スイカズラ科).寄主植物としてガマズミが知られていたが,オオカメノキを新たに確認した.5.Alloclemensia maculata Nielsen,1981フタモンマガリガ中型から大型(開張12-16.5mm)で,前翅は暗褐色でつよい光沢のある紫から赤銅色を帯び,前縁に不明瞭な黄白色の2小斑をもつ.分布:北海道,本州,四国,九州.寄主植物:オオカメノキ(スイカズラ科).本種の寄主植物は不明だったが,飼育によりオオカメノキを利用することがわかった.6.Excurvaria praelatella([Denis&Schiffermuller],1775)タカネマガリガ(新称)(日本新記録)中型(開張10.5mm).前翅は褐色から暗褐色でやや紫色を帯び,基部1/3に細い白線,後縁の肛角付近に三角斑,前縁の基部3/4に三角斑をもつ.分布:北海道;ヨーロッパ,ロシア.国内では,日高山系の幌尻岳でのみ採集されている.寄主植物:日本では不明.ヨーロッパでは,バラ科のイチゴ類やキンミズヒキ属,ハゴロモグサ属,シモツケソウ属,ダイコンソウ属,キイチゴ属などが知られる.7.Paraclemensia caerulea(Issiki,1957)ムラサキツヤマガリガ中型(開張9-12.5mm).頭部は燈黄色,前翅は茶褐色で光沢のある紫から赤銅色を帯びる.分布:本州,四国,九州.寄主植物:コバノミツバツツジ(ツツジ科).那須(私信)は,本種の♀が1994年5月21日に滋賀県御在所岳でアカヤシオ(ゴヨウツツジ)に産卵するのを観察した.8.Paraclemensia viridis Nielsen,1982イヌシデマガリガ(新称)小型(開張10-14mm).頭頂は橙黄色,顔面は淡黄色.前翅は,黒褐色で緑色の光沢をもつ.分布:九州(福岡県).英彦山産のホロタイプ(♀)と同地産の2♀のみが知られる.寄主植物:イヌシデ(カバノキ科).Nielsen(1982)は黒子浩博士採集・飼育のタイプシリーズのラベルデータより,本種の寄主植物をCarpinus sp.として記録した.しかし,ホロタイプとパラタイプには日本語で「イヌシデ」のラベルがつけられおり,本稿であらためて本種の寄主として示した.9.Paraclemensia oligospina Nielsen,1982クリヒメマガリガ(新称)小型(開張9.5-11.5mm).頭頂は黒褐色,顔面は黒褐色から黄褐色で,顔面上部に淡黄色の鱗毛をもつ.前翅は,黒褐色で暗緑色の光沢をもつ.分布:本州,九州.ホロタイプ(♂)1個体(福岡県英彦山産)しか知られていなかったが,複数の♂と♀を大阪府,奈良県から記録した.大阪府和泉葛城山の山頂付近では,2002年4月下旬に成虫がコナラの花の周辺を飛翔していた.寄主植物:クリ(ブナ科).10.Paraclemensia cyanea Nielsen,1982ヒメアオマガリガ(新称)小型(開張12mm).頭頂と顔面は黒色で,触角のソケット間に淡黄色毛をもつ.前翅は黒褐色で,青色の金属光沢をもつ.分布:本州(長野県).茅野市美濃戸産のホロタイプ(♀)のみが知られ,その後追加標本は得られていない.寄主植物:不明.Nielsen(1982)は,本種の寄主植物についてまったく情報がないとしている.しかし,本種のホロタイプには採集者の黒子浩博士によって「シラカバに産卵中」という日本語メモ付けられていることから,寄主植物がシラカバである可能性が高い.11.Paraclemensia incerta(Christoph,1882)クロツヤマガリガ中型(開張9-12.5mm).頭頂は黒褐色で中央に黄色毛をもち,顔面は淡黄色.前翅は光沢のある黒褐色.分布:北海道,本州,四国,九州;ロシア.寄主植物:カエデ属(カエデ科),イヌシデ(カバノキ科),アズキナシ(バラ科),ネジキ(ツツジ科),フジ(マメ科)など,広範な植物を寄主とする.本稿では,標本のラベルデータよりハリギリ(ウコギ科),飼育によりクリ(ブナ科)を寄主植物として追加した.12.Paraclemensia monospina Nielsen,1982アズキナシマガリガ(新称)小型(開張9-12.5mm).頭頂は黒色で,顔面は淡黄色.前翅は暗褐色で光沢のある銅色を帯びる.ホロタイプのオス1個体しか知られていなかったが,アメリカ国立自然史博物館に所蔵されたメスを見いだし記録した.分布:北海道.寄主植物:アズキナシ(バラ科).13.Incurvaria takeuchii Issiki,1957クシヒゲマガリガ大型(開張10.5-19mm).触角は,♂では櫛歯状,♀では単純.分布:本州.寄主植物:リョウブ(リョウブ科).本種の寄主植物は未知だったが,飼育によりリョウブを利用することがわかった.14.Incurvaria alniella(Issiki,1957)ハンノキマガリガ大型(開張14-20mm).前翅は茶褐色で,後縁の基部1/3と2/3に小さな白斑をもつが,白斑が不明瞭に消失する個体もある.分布:本州,九州(対馬).寄主植物:ハンノキ(カバノキ科).15.Incurvaria vetulella(Zetterstedt,1839)コケモモマガリガ(新称)(日本新記録)大型(開張13-17.5mm).前翅は茶褐色で,後縁の基部1/3と2/3に大きな白斑をもつ.分布:北海道;ヨーロッパ,ロシア,北アメリカ.寄主植物:日本では不明.ヨーロッパではブルーベリー,コケモモ(ツツジ科)が記録されている..

71. 宮本 泰行, 広渡 俊哉, 山本 みゆき, 日本産Triaxomera属(鱗翅目,ヒロズコガ科)の1新種, 蝶と蛾, 53, 4, 209-214, 2002.09, 大阪府和泉葛城山のブナの立ち枯れなどから発生したヒロズコガを調べたところ,これまで日本から記録のなかったTriaxomera属(ミヤマヒロズコガ属:新称)に含まれる種であることがわかった.Triaxomera属はロシアから記載され,現在までにヨーロッパなどの落葉樹林に生息する6種が知られるが,本種はそのいずれにも該当せず,Triaxomera属の新種であると判断した.そこで,本種をTriaxomera puncticulata(シラホシミヤマヒロズコガ)と命名し,成虫の形態を記載した.Triaxomera属は,脚の各ふ節に3本の距を持つことや,雄交尾器のvalvaは指状突起を持たないことなどで近縁のNemapogon属などと区別される.本種の外見は本属の模式種であるT.fulvimitrellaに似るが,前翅の白斑が小さいこと,雄交尾器のvalvaの背方内壁に鋸歯を持たないこと,などの点で識別できる..

74. 広渡 俊哉, 亀谷 計泰, コンオビヒゲナガの配偶行動, 蝶と蛾, 50, 2, 85-92, 1999.03, コンオビヒゲナガ,Nemophora ahenea Stringerは,本州,四国,九州に分布し,成虫が7-9月に出現することが知られていたが,その生活史や配偶行動などについてはまったく不明であった.そこで,配偶行動を中心として飛翔活動の日周性・産卵寄主など,本種の生活史の一部を明らかにすることを目的として,兵庫県猪名川町の三草山,および和歌山県橋本市の玉川峡において調査を行った.三草山では,1997年7月11日,7月19日,7月23日の3回,玉川峡では,8月26日,8月30日の2回調査を行った.調査は原則として午後3時から日没まで,7月23日のみ日の出から日没まで行った.いずれの調査日においても,30分ごとに温度・照度を記録した.成虫,特にオスは日没前後,照度が500-8,000lxと薄暗くなってから活発に活動し,オスが群飛するのが確認された.玉川峡では,オスがイタドリ,ヌルデ,ヒメジョオンなどの花の約10-30cm上空で群飛するのが見られた.これまでヒゲナガガ科の配偶行動についての報告例は非常に少なかったが,三草山で7月19日と7月23日に本種の交尾に至る行動を観察することができた.今回観察されたのは,いずれの場合もオス1個体がヒメジョオンの約10cm上空でホバリングしているところにメスが直線的に飛んできて交尾が成立するというものであった.オスは,メスが約10cmのところまで接近すると,メスに飛びついて空中で絡まり,葉上に落下したときにはすで交尾に至っていた.コンオビヒゲナガでは飛翔中のオスが1個体でも交尾が成立したことから,本種にとって群飛をすることはオスとメスが出会うための必要条件ではないことが明らかになった.また,本種の寄主植物は知られていなかったが,玉川峡で8月30日にイタドリの花のつぼみに産卵行動をするメスが見られた.卵は確認できなかったが,イタドリは本種の寄主植物である可能性がある.Thornhill(1980)は,ケバエの一種にみられるオスの群飛は,メスが羽化してくる地面に近い場所を確保しようとするオス同士の闘争であると考えた.コンオビヒゲナガの場合,オスはイタドリやヒメジョオンなどの花をマーカーとしてメスとの出会いの場所として利用しており,群飛を形成するのはThornhill(1980)が観察したケバエの一種のようにその場所をめぐって争っている結果なのかもしれない.また,コンオビヒゲナガではオスの複眼がメスに比べて大きく発達しており,特に背面域の個眼が腹面域の個眼にくらべて大きかった.ホバリングするオスは地面に対して体軸をさまざまな角度に傾けており,地表から飛んでくるメスを発見するのにも背面域の発達した個眼を用いている可能性がある.また,コンオビヒゲナガのメスの複眼はオスに比べて小さいものの,群飛をしないとされるクロハネシロヒゲナガ(オスは単独で探雌飛翔をすると考えられている)のメスに比べて相対的に大きかった.コンオビヒゲナガのメスが,飛翔するオス,あるいはマーカーと考えられる植物のどちらに誘引されるかは不明だが,今回の観察からもメスはオスを視覚で発見していることが示唆された..

76. Species Diversity of Edaphic Beetle Communities in the Coppice of Mt. Mikusayama, Central Japan
The species diversity of edaphic beetle communities was investigated in a coppice of Mt. Mikusayama where the Foundation of Osaka Green Trust reserves 14 ha of the forest. Edaphic beetle communities were monitored once a month from December 1992 to January 1994 at three sites ; St. 1 : plantation of the Japanese cypress Chamaecyparis obtusa, St. 2 : coppice where Quercus acutissima predominated, and St. 3 : coppice where Q. aliena is dominant. A total of 1, 431 individuals of edaphic beetles from 104 species belonging to 24 families were collected at three sites ; 164 individuals (7 fams., 34 spp.) at St. 1, 512 indivs. (17 fams., 47 spp.) at St. 2, and 755 indivs. (20 fams., 82 spp.) at St. 3. Acrotrichis lewisii (Ptiliidae), Trachyphloeosoma advena (Curculionidae), Colenis terrana (Leiodidae), Ptenidium japonicum (Ptiliidae), and Edaphus sp. (Staphylinidae) were dominant species in Mt. Mikusayama and 670 individuals were counted, representing 47% of the total. In Mt. Mikusayama, numbers of species and individuals of Staphylinidae+Curculionidae+Ptiliidae occupied more than 60% and 70% of the totals, respectively. Both species diversity (1-λ) and mean density were the highest at St. 3 (0.93 and 20.9 individuals/m^2), the second highest at St. 2 (0.91 and 14.2), and the lowest at St. 1 (0.87 and 4.6)..

The zoysiagrass billbug, Sphenophorus venatus vestitus CHITTENDEN (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), which is inferred to be introduced into Japan from the United States, has been found occurring in Fukuoka, Hyôgo and Tokyo Prefectures since the first discovery at a golf course in Okinawa Prefecture in 1979. Five adults (2 females and 3 males) of this species were captured by using pitfall traps at the bank of Yamato River in Osaka and Nara Prefectures in 1986, 1988 and 1989 (Table 1).
