The prepared perovskite was characterized by a conventional X-ray absorption spectra to confirm the incorporation of cationic Pd into perovskite matrix. Under the reductive atmosphere (5 vol%H2/He), we found the presence of three reduction processes of Pd cations in perovskite structure. The segregation of Pd metal particles was observed from 200-400 oC although the cationic Pd species remained at 700 oC due to the strong metal-support interaction.. |

Kasuga, Thermoelectric gas sensors of different catalyst oxides and heater metals, 3rd International Congress on Ceramics, ICC3, 2011.08, Thermoelectric hydrogen sensors with different catalyst oxides, Pt-Al 2O3 and Pt-CeO2 have been prepared, and their gas sensing properties are investigated in the air and N2 flow. In air, the relationship between the sensor output and the gas concentration is a linear indicating the combustion only depends on the gas concentration in air. In N2 atmosphere, where the oxygen gas content of N2 source cylinder is below the industrial standard of 50 ppm, the sensor output shows also a linear relationship with the gas concentration, but depressed signal level. The microheater of the thermoelectric sensor has been prepared by the co-sputtering of tungsten and platinum to enhance the high temperature stability. The temperature coefficients of the Pt-W alloy multilayer heater were lowered to a half of the level of Pt.. |

The organic/MoO3 hybrids have a potential for selective VOC detection because the sensing properties of organic/MoO3 hybrids can be controlled by the kind of interlayer organic components. In this study, we have carried out the detail characterization of the interlayer of the organic/MoO3 hybrids as well as the valence of Mo and evaluation of their sensing properties.. |

We fabricated a restive type gas sensor using ceria (cerium oxide) porous thick film with a particle size of about 100 nm in order to improve the response speed of the sensor. First, we investigated the sensing properties for the change of oxygen partial pressure. The sensor was able to detect the variation of oxygen partial pressure in the wide range from 10-18 Pa to 105 Pa at 873 K. The response time (t 90), which is defined as the time until response changes 90% of the saturated value after a sudden change of oxygen partial pressure, was about 10 ms at 1073 K. Next, we investigated the sensing properties for carbon monoxide. We developed the new sensor having two ceria thick films with and without catalyst layer to give selectivity. The sensor was able to detect carbon monoxide over 330 ppm at 773 K, and t90 was 2 s at 723 K. By using Pt/Al2O3 catalyst, the sensor hardly responded for hydrogen, so it was implied that the sensor had a good selectivity for carbon monoxide.. |

Matsubara, Safe membrane-releasing process for thermoelectric hydrogen gas sensor, 6th IEEE Conference on SENSORS, IEEE SENSORS 2007, 2007.12, We present here a safe membrane-releasing process in KOH for the fabrication of a high performance freestanding device and the mass production of a single membrane device for the hydrogen gas sensing application. The fabricated devices are thermoelectric hydrogen gas sensors based on the thermoelectric detection of the catalytic hydrogen combustion. The free-standing device has a voltage response 2.7 times higher than the single membrane device. The proposed membrane-releasing process, which combines black wax and a KOH protective polymer coat, shows fabrication yields of 31%, 50% for the free-standing device and 47% for the single-membrane device produced in mass.. |

Woosuck Shin, Maiko Nishibori, Lionel F. Houlet, Kazuki Tajima, Toshio Itoh, Noriya Izu, Ichiro Matsubara, Robust thermoelectric hydrogen sensors with ceramic catalyst, 16th World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2006, WHEC 2006, 2006.12, Micro-thermoelectric hydrogen sensor (μ-THS) is one of the promising candidates for hydrogen leak alarm system because of its simple structure, its unique and reliable working principle, catalytic combustion and thermoelectric (from heat to electric) conversion, and its sensing performance for wide-range of hydrogen concentrations. Catalyst is of great importance for the reliability in gas sensors. The integration of the catalyst is the key technology to make a sensor of high efficiency and high durability such as long-term stability. By controlling the catalyst preparation, the size, the thickness of the ceramic catalyst and the dispersion of Pt in the catalyst could be controlled. These are closely related not only to sensitivity but also to the long-term stability of the catalyst. We have monitored the performance of the μ-THS with ceramic catalyst over 3 months, to investigate the relation between the device preparation and the stability of the sensor.. |

Ga K-edge XMCD was observed under pressure ranging from 4.5 to 29.4 GPa and results indicate that the Ga atom is magnetically polarized under high pressure. From the XMCD spectral profile, it is suggested that the pressure-induced ferromagnetic state has a canted ferromagnetic structure.. |
